Outstanding Documented Engraved, Silver Plated Colt Third Model “Thuer” Derringer with Pearl Grips and Desirable “Pipe” Case as Pictured in “Colt Engraving” by Wilson - Serial no. 3132, 41 RF cal., 2 1/2 inch round bbl., silver finish, pearl grips. These derringers were introduced in 1870 and totaled around 48,000 produced, with this example being made early in production, having the “high spur” hammer. This derringer has gorgeous factory quality period applied engraving on over 3/4 of the metal surfaces consisting mainly of highly detailed scrollwork, and it has a full silver finish. The top of the barrel has a rounded blade front sight and “COLT” in large italic letters. The serial number is marked on the left of the grip frame and in pencil on the inside of the left grip panel. This derringer is pictured on p. 266 of “Colt Engraving” by Wilson where it is described as having scroll engraving “much like that used frequently by Nimschke”. It is fitted with a pair of smooth, very attractive pearl grips. Includes a rare and desirable red leather wrapped “pipe” style case.
