Master Nick Kusmit Signed and Game Scene Engraved Winchester Model 42 Pigeon Grade Deluxe Slide Action Shotgun - Serial no. 24104, 410 gauge, 26 inch solid rib bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1936 and subsequently upgraded by highly regarded long time Winchester factory Master Engraver Nick Kusmit. Blued barrel with a single nickel bead sight on the matted solid rib, chamber marked 3 inches, choke marked full, and small wedges of scroll engraving at
either side of the breech. The blued receiver displays highly attractive 42-5 pattern engraving
with beautiful scrollwork surrounding game scenes on either side. The left scene depicts a pair of pointers on
point as a pair of grouse flush in a field and the right shows a pointing setter ready to flush a pair of quail. The left scene is signed in the rocks at the bottom of the scene with Nick Kusmit’s “NK” signature. “DELUXE” added
below the serial number on the receiver. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered forend and straight grip stock with
factory buttplate. Stock measurements: 1 5/8 inch drop at comb; 2 3/4 inch drop at heel; 14 9/16 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 5 oz. CONDITION: Very fine as custom embellished/upgraded by Nick Kusmit, retaining 98% plus blue finish with minor handling evidence, some light oxidation along the barrel rib, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. “WS-1”. Blued receiver with a dog and pheasant scene roll
engraved on the left and a mallard scene on the right. Beautifully figured multi-point checkered forend and
pistol grip stock with blued steel grip cap and Winchester buttplate. This gun is mentioned by serial number in
Ronald W. Stadt’s “Winchester Shotguns and Shotshells: From the Hammer Double to the Model 59” on page 242 where he speculates that this gun may well have been built for a ranking member of the Winchester staff or friend of the company. A copy of the book is included. CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue finish with minor handling evidence and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. Exceptional and Desirable Western Cartridge Company Military Cartridge Cased Salesman’s Sample Set - This rare and desirable set would have been used by Western Cartridge Company’s salesmen to display the plethora of military cartridges manufactured by Western. The set is contained in a black leatherette wrapped case lined with blue velvet. The inside of the lid is embroidered with the Western trademark and “MILITARY AMMUNITION”. There is a loose velvet wrapped divider between the lid and the cartridges. The cartridges include some interesting pieces such as the 8ga. Cement Gun, .45-70 blank, electric blasting cap, primers and detonators, and an assortment of rifle and pistol cartridges ranging from .22 L.R. to 20 mm.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, the case showing very minimal wear on the exterior or interior and the cartridges showing equally minimal wear. A rare example of a Western military cartridge salesman’s set!

Model 42 Slide Action
Shotgun - Serial no. 164540, 410 gauge, 26 inch round bbl., blue finish,
walnut stock. Manufactured after 1963 with single bead sight, a 3 inch
chamber, and choke marked “FULL”. The barrel has the standard markings with
Winchester factory oval proofs on the top of the barrel and receiver. Mounted
with a 14-groove forearm and pistol grip stock with a checkered plastic buttplate and 13 7/8 inch length of pull. CONDITION: Excellent plus, near new overall, retains 99% plus original blue finish with a few scattered light handling marks. The excellent wood has a few scattered light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
