LOT 548
Exceptional and Scarce Fabrique Nationale G Series (G1278) FAL Semi-Automatic Rifle with Scope - Serial no. G1278, 7.62x51 Nato cal., 20 inch round bbl., black finish, hardwood stock. Manufactured in Belgium, this rifle is part of a limited importation run performed by Browning Arms in the early 1970s. Originally approved by the ATF for importation, only a limited number made it into the country before they reversed their decision, determining that the imported commercial FALs were too close to FN’s selective-fire capable military contract FALs in configuration. Further import was cut off, and the ones already through customs were given a pass and added to the ATF C&R List (see page 23). Standard military sights, long flash hider, bayonet lug and adjustable gas port with grenade setting. The upper receiver is fitted with a raised action cover with integral scope base. The left side of the upper receiver is marked “F.A.L. cal. 7,62”, and the right side bears the one-line Fabrique Nationale address. The lower receiver has the “S/R/A” selector markings with a pin inserted to lock out the “A” spot. Fitted with walnut triangular forearm, smooth plastic pistol grip numbered to the gun, and a walnut stock with the standard stamped sheet steel buttplate. Includes 2 extra magazines (20-rounds), brown M1907 pattern leather sling, a Redfield 2-7x variable 1 inch tube scope (clear optics), and original scope box. CONDITION: Excellent, with 97% of original black finish and scattered handling marks, most noticeably on the flash hider. The wood is excellent with a few light handling marks. One buttstock sling swivel retaining screw absent. Mechanically excellent. Scope is excellent with clear optics and a crisp reticle.
