British Flintlock Saddle Ring Cavalry Carbine Dated 1786 with Bayonet - NSN, 65 cal., 28 1/8 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. This British cavalry carbine resembles some features of the Elliot pattern examples of the time, and has a crisp 1786 dated stamp on the right of the buttstock with a saddle bar and ring mounted on the left. The lock is marked “TOWER” vertically behind the hammer, with the crown above “GR” royal cipher ahead. “91” and a “crown/8” and “J.S” marked on the underside of the lock. Two proofs on top of the breech of the barrel. Smooth straight grip stock with brass tip and pipes, iron button head ramrod, brass trigger guard, and brass butt. Includes a socket bayonet maker marked “S.DAWES” on the blade. CONDITION: Fine, with some scattered areas of light pitting on the otherwise bright iron surfaces with defined markings and edges and attractive golden aged patina on the brass furniture. The stock is also fine with defined edges, scattered mild dents and scratches, and a distinct “1786” dated stamp on the right. Mechanically excellent. Included bayonet is very good.
