LOT 1403
Excellent German DWM Model 1902 Commercial “Fat Barrel” Luger Semi- Automatic Pistol - Serial no. 23337, 9 mm Luger cal., 4 inch round bbl., blue finish,
walnut grips. This is an excellent original example of a rare early commercial contract Model 1902 “Fat Barrel” Luger. This is a rare variation that was intermixed with the standard 1902 production
Lugers, and it is estimated that only about 600 were produced in total. The 1902 Lugers were manufactured in serial number ranges, approximately 22300-22400 and 22900-23500, and this pistol
falls into the latter production group, manufactured just prior to the 1902 Danzig Test Lugers and the cartridge
counter models. The Model 1902 was the first Luger chambered for the 9 mm cartridge with a 4 inch barrel and was generally intended for sales outside
of Germany. The top of the chamber is blank, the front toggle has the DWM logo, the right of the barrel extension is unmarked and the left has the early commercial “crown/B” and “crown/U” proofs. The bottom of the barrel has the commercial “crown/B”, “crown/U” and “crown/G” proofs along with the matching serial number, and the front of the frame is marked “GERMANY” under the serial number indicating sale outside of Germany likely to the United States. It has the
early recessed breech bolt, unmarked extractor, both the grip and thumb safety and the early dished toggles. The thumb safety functions in the upward position, and the lower safety lever area is polished bright. The magazine is the correct early version with a nickel plated body and walnut base marked “Cal. 9m/m” on
bottom. Matching serial numbers visible on various components.
CONDITION: Excellent, retains 95% original blue finish with some light finish wear on the sideplate, and
90% original straw finish on the small parts. The grips are also excellent with one small ding visible on the left panel and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 6,500 - 9,500
LOT 1404

- Serial no. 662a, 9 mm Luger cal., 6 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. This is an excellent example of an Imperial German DWM Model 1906 First Issue, unaltered, Navy Luger pistol, one of
approximately 8,000 of this model originally manufactured. These were the standard pre-World War I Navy Luger issued to the Imperial German Navy all the way through World War I and even into the Weimar era. This first issue Navy 1906 Luger has the desirable 6 inch Navy barrel, two-position 100-200 meter Navy rear sight, grip safety,
and the desirable first variation safety markings with “GESICHERT” in the lower position. The majority of these first issue Navy Lugers had their safety markings modified, with this rare example being one of the very few that escaped this alteration and still retains its original safety
marking in the lower position. It has all matching visible numbers, with unnumbered (possibly replacement) checkered walnut grip panels, and a Navy type magazine with nickel plated body and walnut base with concentric circles, renumbered “662” to match on bottom, along with a “crown/M” Navy proof. The top of the chamber area is undated, and the standard “DWM” logo is marked on the front toggle. The underside of the barrel is marked
with a “crown/M” Navy acceptance proof with a “crown” proof on the left. The left of the barrel extension has the “crown” firing proof followed by double “crown/M” Navy acceptance proof marks. “Crown” proof mark also located on the left of the breech block. It has the standard military style serial number placement with “662a” marked on the underside of the barrel, and front of the frame, and “62” on the underside of the barrel extension. Various small parts are marked with the last two digits of the
serial number. “W.K./1709” unit marking of Kiel Shipyard on the rear grip strap.
CONDITION: Excellent, retains 95% plus original blue finish with crisp markings and edges in the metal. 80% plus original straw colors
visible on the small parts. The grips are also excellent with minimal handling evidence and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. This exceptional Imperial German DWM Model 1906 unaltered
