George S. Lewis Jr.
The
George S. Lewis Jr. and Wife Beverly
George was born in Kansas City, Mo in 1935. His interest in guns began at a very young age, even before he could drive. His father brought home a German Luger from WWII, that he confiscated from a German officer. George became enamored with the Luger. He would handle it, and care for as the years passed. That was the beginning of what turned out to be a lifetime of learning about and collecting fine firearms, primarily
pre-war Colts.
George met his future wife, Beverly, in the 8th grade. They began to date throughout their years at the same high school and attended college together at the The University of Miami, where they decided to get married (a union that lasted for over sixty-five years). Upon their return to Kansas City, George worked at the family finance business. In 1962 he left the family enterprise to become a stockbroker; a position and career he held through company buyouts and mergers for 47 years.
As his career and family of four began to grow, George was in a position to become more serious with his collection that focused on 1840s-1940s Colts but eventually widened to a group of Remington firearms and a few other makers of Derringers.
