He was on the forefront of amassing a collection of top-quality Colts before it became fashionable. Decades ago, the focus for most collectors was often on scarce variations over pristine condition. George wanted both. He naturally gravitated toward quality over quantity. As his experience grew, he learned the importance of the correct period gun cases and boxes to match certain models and searched for excellent and correct accessories to complete each set. Early cartridge boxes and “skin packets” were another passion.
George was a “lifer” in this hobby and was active for over sixty-five years! He followed
all the major shows and auctions, screening for the best the market had to offer. He
also traveled across America to view and purchase from many major private collections, including several major holdings from the 1970s that are legend today (Wm. Locke, etc.).
He was a member of the American Society of Arms Collectors, fifty-year member of Texas Gun Collectors Assn., a founding member of Colt Collectors Assn., to name a few.
George's life expanded considerably beyond his important role as a father, and keen interest in Colts and other collectibles. He loved and enjoyed a successful career as a broker, was an avid sportsman, and held a vast group of friends from all walks of life. He also privately mentored an untold circle of friends and family with his guidance, knowledge, integrity, and kindness — literally changing many lives for the better.
He leaves behind a legacy of a life well-lived with his passing in 2020, and a collection of primarily early Colts that have dazzled visiting enthusiasts for over half a century.
