Very Fine Documented Antique Marlin Deluxe Model 1893 Takedown Lever Action Extra Length Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 133999, 32-40 cal., 30 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. The included factory letter (copy) states the rifle was shipped on February 22,
1896 with a 30 inch round barrel in .32-40 caliber, takedown
pistol grip stock. High end finishes were rarely noted in the Marlin factory records. The
deluxe stock on this rifle is factory original. Fitted with a German silver blade front sight, an
elevation adjustable rear sight, and a folding tang peep sight. The barrel is stamped with the two-line
Marlin legend ending with the August patent date ahead of the rear sight and the caliber designation
at the breech. “MARLIN SAFETY” is stamped on top of the casehardened receiver. The forearm and pistol grip stock feature factory checkering and
hard rubber shotgun buttplate. Few Model 1893s left the factory with special order features. The Model 1883 was a “working man’s gun” and Marlin customers
were generally not inclined to spend extra money on deluxe features.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 85% original blue finish, with thinning to brown on the balance. 80% original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. The frame retains 90% plus vivid original case colors with some repetitive dents and dings visible on the lower forward frame and takedown collar. The takedown collar, hammer, and lever retain 85% original case colors. The wood is also fine with a filled repair at the stock toe, some minor handling marks, and overall crisp checkering. Desirable Antique Marlin Deluxe Model 1893 Takedown Lever Action Rifle in .38-55 - Serial no. 139592, 38-55 cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1896, this is a deluxe version of Marlin’s famous Model 1893. Since the model was considered a “working man’s gun,” Marlin customers were generally not inclined to spend extra money on deluxe features. The rifle is fitted with a German blade front sight, an elevation adjustable rear sight, and a folding tang peep
sight. “MARLIN SAFETY” is stamped on top of the receiver, and the barrel has the two-line Marlin legend ending with the August patent date the caliber designation. The forearm and
pistol grip stock feature factory checkering. The buttstock is fitted with a crescent buttplate. CONDITION: Fine, retaining 50% plus original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance. The loading gate retains 40% original
nitre blue. The receiver retains 60% original case colors. 70% original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. Patterns of original case colors remain on the buttplate. LOT 1076 Marlin Deluxe Model 39 Lever Action Rifle - Serial no. S3050, 22 S L LR cal., 24 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, deluxe checkered walnut stock. Considered a “working man’s gun” of the period, Marlin customers were not inclined to spend additional money on deluxe features, thus making deluxe Model 39 a rarity in lever action collecting. This deluxe example was manufactured in 1959 and features highly figured walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with a checkering pattern similar to the factory No. C.
