Spectacular Cased Factory Engraved Nickel and Gold Plated Colt New Line .32 Spur Trigger Revolver as Pictured in “Colt Engraving” by Wilson - Serial no. 5500, 32 RF cal., 2 1/4 inch round bbl., nickel/gold finish, antique ivory grips. Manufactured in 1874, this Colt New Line .32 revolver shows nearly full coverage, very attractive, factory floral scroll engraving as well as the inscription “S.J. Dennis”, the identity of which is unknown. The barrel has the standard two-line address and “32 CAL” is marked on the left of the frame. The matching serial number “5500” is marked on the left of the grip frame, bottom of the barrel, and in ink on the inside of each grip panel, while “500” is marked on the rear of the cylinder.
It otherwise has standard features and is fitted with a pair of smooth antique ivory grips. This specific revolver is pictured on p. 273 of “Colt
Engraving” by Wilson. Includes a hardwood presentation case, key, cleaning rod, and a cartridge block full of various .32 RF short and long cartridges.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 95% plus of the original nickel finish and 60% of
the original gold plating on the cylinder with the balance having flaked/thinned to mostly a smooth brown patina. The grips are very good with some scattered hairline age cracks and otherwise minimal handling marks. Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine with some light handling/storage wear.
