Very Scarce Canadian Broad
Arrow Proofed Savage
Model 1907 Semi-Automatic
Pistol with Factory Letter - Serial no. 106524, 32 ACP cal., 3 3/4 inch round
bbl., blue finish, hard rubber grips. Manufactured c. 1913-1915, this is one
of only 500 Savage Model 1907 pistols sold under contract to the Canadian government. A similar example to this one is pictured on p. 147 of “Savage Pistols” by Bailey Brower,
Jr., where
it is stated
that these pistols were purchased by the Canadian government under contract for military
or police use.
It has the
standard two-
line address, patent date, and caliber marking on top of the slide,
the “SAVAGE” trademark on the left of the frame, and the large broad arrow within a “C” Canadian acceptance mark on the right of the frame. It has standard features and is fitted with a pair of checkered hard rubber grips with Savage logos at the center. The included factory letter confirms the pistol was shipped to A.M. Bell on 6 August 1914, the same location as other documented Canadian government marked Savage pistols.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 80% of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina, mostly in handling areas and at the muzzle. The grips are also very fine with a few scattered light handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Bailey Brower, Jr. Collection, author of “Savage Pistols”.

Savage Model 1907 Semi-Automatic Pistol with Special Order Target Sights and Factory Box - Serial
no. 9007B, 380 ACP cal.,

grips. Manufactured in
1914-1915, the top of
the slide is marked with
the two-line address,
patent date, and caliber
marking, lacking the
“9MM” notation. This pistol has a couple
of rare special order features, one being
target sights, and the other being a coarsely
checkered hammer. A Model 1907 pistol
with similar features to this one is pictured
on p. 47 of “Savage Pistols” by Bailey Brower Jr. Includes a correctly labeled factory box. CONDITION: Fine, retains 60% plus of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to a smooth grey patina and some scattered patches of light pitting, some of which on the barrel shroud appear lightly cleaned. The grips are also fine with a minor chip absent from the left panel, otherwise minimal handling marks, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The box is fine with mild wear.

French Contract Savage Model 1907 Semi-Automatic Pistol - Serial no. 00038.A, 32 ACP cal., 3 3/4 inch round bbl.,
blue finish, hard rubber grips. Manufactured in 1915-1916. This is one of only approximately 50
(serial numbered 0001A through 0050A) experimental/prototype pistols manufactured with a lanyard ring on the butt to secure a French military contract. These pistols were manufactured after the first batch of pistols sent to France did not
meet immediate approval due to their lack of
lanyard attaching hardware. This pistol has the
correct hole in the lower back strap for the lanyard
loop which is now absent. A similar example is
pictured on p. 132 of “Savage Pistols” by Bailey
Brower Jr., and these 50 pistols are discussed on p.
133, while this specific pistol is pictured on p. 49 of “Savage Automatic Pistols” by James Carr.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 40% of the original blue finish
with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey
patina and a few small scattered patches of very light
surface pitting. The grips are also very good with a few scattered minor handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. A scarce Savage experimental French military contract pistol!

Excellent Consecutively Serialized Pair of Savage Model
1917 Semi-Automatic Pistols -A) Savage Model 1917 Pistol
- Serial no. 29487B, 380 ACP cal., 4 1/4 inch round bbl., matte
blue finish, hard rubber grips. Manufactured 1921-1928
with the standard two-line address, patent date, and caliber
markings on top of the slide. It has standard features
including checkered hard rubber grips with Savage logos at
the tops. Consecutively serialized to “B”.
CONDITION: Excellent, retains 97% plus of the original matte blue finish with
some very light edge wear and a few light scuffs on the rear of the slide. The
grips are also excellent with a few scattered light handling
marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
B) Savage Model 1917 Pistol as Pictured in “Savage
Pistols” by Bailey Brower Jr. - Serial no. 29486B, 380 ACP
cal., 4 1/4 inch round bbl., matte blue finish, hard rubber grips.
Manufactured 1921-1928 with the standard two-line address,
patent date, and caliber markings on top of the slide. It has
standard features including checkered hard
rubber grips with Savage logos at the tops.
Consecutively serialized to “A”. This pistol is
pictured on p. 129 of “Savage Pistols” by
Baily Brower Jr.
CONDITION: Excellent, retains 98% plus of
the original matte blue finish with a few scattered light handling marks and
a series of light scuffs visible on the back strap. The grips are very fine with a
few scattered minor handling marks and crisp checkering.
Mechanically excellent.
