Factory Game Scene Engraved and Gold Inlaid Abesser & Merkel Sideplated Over/ Under Shotgun - Serial no. 22014, 12 gauge, 30 inch vent rib bbl., blue/coin/gold finish, walnut stock. Blued Krupp Steel barrels with dual white bead sights on the matted flat vent rib, attractive scroll engraving at the breech around the upper chamber, and chambers measured 2 3/4 inches with automatic ejectors. The coin finished sideplated action displays extensive scroll engraving, deep cut bolsters, a dog and pheasant scene on the left, and five mallards in a pond scene on the right. Both of the game scenes have an
attractive accenting gold inlaid single bird as the focal point. The gun features a single trigger and a tang mounted safety/selector switch. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered
three-piece forend with engraved fittings and horn tip inlay and a straight grip stock with brown rubber recoil pad. Barrel and stock measurements (U/O): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .721/.722 inches; choke constriction .018/.032 inches; minimum wall thickness .028/.030 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 1 15/16 inch drop at heel; 13 5/8 inch length of pull; weight 8 lbs. 5 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 97% plus original blue and gold finishes, 90% original coin finish, minor handling evidence, slight rubbing at the muzzles, and a brown coloration on the triggerguard. There are a few cracks in the stock (one near the heel on the left and a few cross grain on the right), otherwise the wood is very fine with a few minor scratches, and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 4,000 - 6,000
LOT 3440 Factory Engraved Gebruder Merkel Hand Detachable Sidelock Over/Under Shotgun - Serial no. 69954, 12 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. Blued Bohler steel barrels with single white bead sight on the matted solid rib, standard Merkel markings, 1968 dated German proofs, scroll engraving at the chamber sections, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The coin finished hand detachable sidelock action displays wonderfully executed Germanic scrollwork
covering nearly the entire surface with a matted background continuing onto the triggerguard, toplever, and both tangs. The gun features double triggers
(front is articulated), cocking indicators, and tang mounted manual safety switch. Attractively figured, multi-point checkered three piece forend with engraved fittings and pistol grip stock with black grip cap, shadowline cheekpiece, rear sling swivel, and factory buttplate.      Factory Engraved Centaure 20 Gauge Imperial Crown Grade Over/Under Shotgun - Serial no. 240, 20 gauge, 28 inch vent rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. Blued steel barrels with dual bead sights on the matted vent rib, top barrel marked “CENTAURE LIEGE - NITRO PROOF - IMPERIAL CROWN GRADE” and “MADE IN BELGIUM FOR CONTINENTAL ARMS CORPORATION N.Y.” on the right and left respectively, 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors, and choke constrictions of .015/.023 inches. The coin finished scalloped action displays light scrollwork along with three game scenes consisting of a dog flushing a mallard on the left, a pair of mallards on the underside, and another dog and mallard scene on the right. The toplever is marked with a gold inlaid crown. The gun features a single selective trigger and tang mounted manual safety switch. Attractive straight grain three piece forend with Anson button release and pistol grip stock with blank inscription oval and checkered bare butt. Stock measurements: 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 5/8 inch drop at heel; 14 1/8 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 8 oz. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 99% original blue and coin finishes with minor handling evidence. The wood is very fine with a few minor dings and scratches in the forend and sharp checkering. Factory Game Scene Engraved German Over/Under Combination Gun with Case - Serial no. B.A.4264, 16/8x57 gauge, 27 1/8 inch solid rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. Blued Krupp steel barrels with a beaded blade front sight, flip-up rear sight, and claw mounts on the matted solid rib, oak leaf engraving at the breech, choke constriction of .021 inches, and 2 1/2 inch chamber with extractor. The coin finished action displays highly attractive deep scroll and game scenes showing a red stag and hind along with a quail on the left and a roe buck and doe on the right with a pheasant. The gun has double triggers (front is single set), cocking indicators, and a tang safety. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered forend with engraved fittings and pistol grip stock with capercallie engraved cartridge trap, shadowline cheekpiece, horn grip cap, and hard rubber buttplate. Includes a leather mutton leg case. Length of pull 13 7/8 inches. Weight 6 lbs. 14 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 98% reapplied blue finish, attractive smooth coin grey finish on the action, minor wear at the muzzle, and overall minor handling marks. The wood shows cracks at the rear of the upper tang, the left rear of the forend, and the left side of the stock head, otherwise the freshened wood is very good with crisp checkering. Case is poor with missing lid. Mechanically functions, though the stock is loose.
