Engraved and Gold Inlaid Griffin & Howe/Remington Model
721 Bolt Action Rifle with Swarovski Scope - Serial no. 2001, 270 cal., 22 inch solid rib bbl., blue finish, walnut stock.
Blued barrel with ramped blade front sight and marked “2001 GRIFFIN & HOWE, INC. NEW YORK” on the top as well as
“CAL. .270”. The action is also blued and features a polished bolt, Lyman rear peep sight (stock inlet), and Griffin & Howe side mounted
scope mount holding a Swarovski Habicht 3-10x42mm scope. The triggerguard and floorplate are beautiful, non-Griffin & Howe additions to the gun,
displaying highly attractive scrollwork on the triggerguard and a diamond of scroll surrounding a gold inlaid deer bordered by Germanic acorn and oak leaf accents.
An incredibly similar example of this engraving can be seen on page 204 of the 1959 “Gun Digest” which was executed by highly regarded Griffin & Howe Master Engraver Joseph Fugger. Lightly figured, multi-point checkered stock with ebony tip, blued steel grip cap, sling studs, shadowline cheekpiece, “E.A.B.” in the inscription oval, and a blued steel buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine as built by Griffin & Howe, retaining 99% blue finish, some marring on the action bolts, very slight spotting on the floorplate, some repaired cracking at the rear of the tang, and sharp checkering on the wood. The floorplate cannot be opened as it is slightly oversized, otherwise mechanically fine.
Estimate: 2,500 - 4,000
