Factory Engraved and Gold Inlaid Ithaca Grade 5E Single Barrel Trap Shotgun - Serial no. 402012, 12 gauge, 32 inch vent rib bbl., blue/gold finish, walnut stock. Blued steel barrel with dual white bead sights on the matted vent rib, flourishes of scroll engraving at either side of the breech, and 2 3/4 inch chamber with automatic ejector. The blued action displays nicely cut floral scroll engraving surrounding the factory markings on the underside as well as a pair of gold inlaid game scenes showing a pheasant in a field on

     gauge, 30 inch solid rib bbl., blue/gold/ casehardened finish, walnut stock. This
scarce Crown Grade is one of only 842 made by
Hunter Arms Co. according to page 96 of William Brophy’s “L. C. Smith Shotguns”. Blued steel barrels with dual bead sights on the matted concave solid rib with engraving and a gold inlaid
bar toward the breech, “L. C. SMITH Crown GRADE” and “MADE TO ORDER BY THE HUNTER ARMS CO. INC. FULTON. N.Y.” marked on the right and left barrels respectively, 1 1/2 inch wedges of scroll engraving at either breech, and
chambers measured 2 3/4 inches with automatic ejectors. The casehardened sidelock action displays the quintessential factory cut engraving these high
grade L. C. Smith guns are known for. The left side shows a pair of setters on point in a field, the right has a pair of pointers following the sent of game with the balance filled with attractive floral scrollwork and the tell-tale gold inlaid crown on the toplever. The gun features a Hunter One Trigger and tang mounted manual safety switch. The beautifully figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend with ebony tip inlay and engraved fittings and round knob pistol grip stock features a Hawkins red rubber recoil pad. Included with the lot is a second set of matching numbered 28 inch 12 gauge barrels with their own forend. Barrel measurements for the 28 inch set (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the
breech .732/.732 inches; choke constriction .012/.025 inches; minimum wall thickness .030/.028 inches. Barrel and stock measurements for the 30 inch set (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .729/.729 inches; choke constriction .035/.034 inches; minimum wall thickness .033/.029 inches; 1 3/8 inch drop at comb; 1 3/4 inch drop at heel; 14 3/8 inch length of pull; weight 8 lbs. 4 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 97% refurbished blue on the barrels and triggerguard, 25% plus original case colors on the action. The metal has light handling evidence and a few scattered tiny spots of pin prick oxidation. The wood is also very fine with a few minor marks and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Factory Engraved Philadelphia Manufactured A. H. Fox CE Grade Double Barrel Shotgun with Factory Letter - Serial no. 25361, 12 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Blued barrels with dual white bead sights on the matted concave solid rib, “CHROMOX FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL” and “MADE BY A.H. FOX GUN Co. PHILA. PA U.S.A.” on the right and left barrels respectively,
and chambers lengthened to 3 inches with automatic ejectors. The
casehardened boxlock action displays the late C Grade engraving with near full coverage
scrollwork with bird scenes on either side of the receiver and a setter on the underside. The gun features double triggers and tang mounted manual safety switch. Attractively figured, multi-point
checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings, Deeley latch release, and horn tip inlay as well as
a round knob pistol grip stock with checkered flats and replacement rubber recoil pad. The included factory letter confirms the barrel length,
gauge, chokes, weight, length of pull, and drop at heel (measurements some variation with age/shrinkage) when it was shipped to Andrew Harris, a dealer from Providence, RI, on March 5th, 1925. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameters nine inches from the breech .730/.730 inches; choke constriction .022/.041 inches; minimum wall thickness .020/.018 inches; drop at comb 1 3/4 inches; drop at heel 2 13/16 inches; length of pull 14 1/8 inches; weight 6 lbs. 15 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 90% reblued finish, traces of original case colors on the action with the balance a fine silver patina, some thinning on the barrel, and overall mild handling evidence. The wood is also very fine with and added layer of varnish, a few marks, minor chipping, and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 4,000 - 7,000

Stock measurements: 1 5/8 inch drop at comb; 1 13/16 inch drop at heel; 14 9/16 inch length of pull; weight 8 lbs. 7 oz. CONDITION: Very fine overall as professionally refurbished, retaining 97% blue and 99% gold finishes, some finish loss on the forend shoe, some minor pitting under the finish on the action, reapplied varnish on the wood, and sharp recut checkering.
