Attractive Antique Special Order Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action 44-40 Rifle - Serial no. 41555, 44-40 WCF cal., 24 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1880 as a Third Model with integral dust cover guide and dust cover with grip serrations at the rear. The top barrel flat is marked with the two-line address and King’s patent marking and correctly lacks a caliber marking, as .44-40 W.C.F. was the only caliber offered in this model at the time. The upper tang is marked with the model designation and the serial number is on the lower tang. The left side of the lower tang is marks “520 S”, with “520” repeated in the stock inlet. It is fitted with a non-factory replacement Patridge style blade front sight, an elevation adjustable rear sight, and special order sling swivels on the nosecap and bottom of the buttstock. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and oil finished straight grip stock with a smooth steel shotgun buttplate. CONDITION: Fine, retains 60% of the original blue finish, 40% of the original case colors, and 50% of the original niter blue on the loading gate with the balance having thinned to a mixture of grey and brown patinas. The wood is also fine with a few scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 5,500 - 7,500

Documented Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 109235, 40-65 WCF cal., 26 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. The accompanying factory letter states the rifle was received in the warehouse on August 31, 1901 and shipped on September 18, 1901 with an octagon barrel in .40-65 caliber, and special order set trigger. The rifle is fitted with a Lyman blade front sight, an elevation adjustable rear sight, and a Marble tang peep sight. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-line address marking ahead of the rear sight and “40-65 W.C.F.” at the breech. The lower tang has the patent dates marking and serial number. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. CONDITION: Fine. The barrel, magazine tube, and forend cap retain 70% original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance. The receiver retains 60% original blue finish with a smooth gray patina on the balance. Traces of original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The reoiled wood is very good with some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 4,500 - 6,500

45-60 WCF cal., 28 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured 1882 as a Third Model with integral dust cover guide and dust cover with grip serrations at the rear. The top barrel flat has the two-line address
and King’s patent marking in front of the rear sight and the caliber marking at the breech. The caliber marking is repeated on the bottom of the cartridge elevator. The model designation is marked on the upper tang and the serial number is on the lower tang. The initials “ORF” are carved on the right side of the buttstock. It is fitted with a German silver
blade front sight and a folding ladder rear sight. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a trapdoor crescent buttplate (cleaning rod not included). The included factory letter confirms a serial number application date of 14 March 1882, confirms the current
configuration, and lists a receipt at warehouse date of 21 May 1883 and shipment date of 13 November 1883 in order number 9034. These last two dates of “1883” may be a factory or transcription error, and may be intended to be “1882”. CONDITION: Very good, retains 30% of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to a mix of artificially applied speckled grey and brown patinas and a light speckling of black paint in a few areas of the receiver. The reoiled wood also very good with a small patch of filler in the upper left edge of the forearm, some scattered minor handling marks, and crisp period carving on the butt (see above). Mechanically fine. Estimate: 6,000 - 9,000

Outstanding 50-Count Box of Winchester Repeating Arms Company Model 1873 .44 W.C.F. Cartridges - This is an exceptionally high condition, full box of Winchester Repeating Arms Co. .44 W.C.F. cartridges. The box retains a partial factory seal and is of plain cardboard construction with a green top label with black lettering and features the picture of a .44-40 cartridge. The black ink labeling around the sides features a picture of a Model 1873 carbine, a .44-40 cartridge, and the Winchester guarantee. CONDITION: Excellent plus, the box retains the factory seal and the full compliment of cartridges with extremely minimal wear or fading. One would search a long time to find a higher condition, factory sealed box of Winchester .44-40 W.C.F. cartridges! NOTE: Will ship to FFL’s only. If picking up must have FOID or FFL.
