Fine Pair of Engraved and Gilt French Flintlock Holster Pistols with Silver Mounts -A) French Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 16 mm cal., 12 inch round bbl., bright/gold/silver finish, walnut stock. With swamped, round, two-stage barrels with turned girdles and brass front sights. The breech sections of the barrels, barrel tangs and flat bevelled locks are each chiselled in low relief with rococo ornament all against a matted gilt background. The center of the barrels’ ornamentation is signed “PARIS.” The figured, molded, walnut, full-length stocks have cast and chased silver furniture. The large silver butt caps are decorated in relief with elaborate entwined trophies of arms above two recumbent lions with a grotesque mask beneath. With original iron tipped wooden ramrods. CONDITION: Very good plus. The barrel is cleaned bright with some scattered corrosion spot marks, chiselled ornament and gilding slightly softened but retaining most of its gilding. The stock is very good with scattered age related storage and handling marks and blemishes. The silver mounts are very good, some softening to the high points of the cast and chased ornament. Mechanically excellent. B) French Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 16 mm cal., 12 inch round bbl., bright/gold/silver finish, walnut stock. See “A.” CONDITION: Very good plus. The barrel has been cleaned bright and has minor oxidation marks, most of the gilding, and some of the chiselled ornament and gilding softened. The stock is very good and has scattered age related handling and storage marks. The silver mounts are very good with some softening of the high points of the ornamentation. Mechanically excellent. Cased Pair of Silver Mounted Small Scale French Officer Style Flintlock Pistols

stock. These
pistols are very
much in the style
of the officer’s
pistols during the
Napoleonic era but scaled down, and the consignor indicated they are from the late 19th century. They are marked “Artillerie” in fancy script on the locks. The bright steel barrels are smoothbore and fitted with blade front sights and notch rear sights on the tangs. The furniture is silver. The nicely figured walnut stocks have fine checkering. The pair comes in a rosewood presentation style case with a set of accessories, including a small powder horn.
CONDITION: Fine with bright barrel and lock, some minor spots of faint oxidation/pitting, mild wear on the frizzen, attractive aged patina on the silver, and minor age and storage related wear. The stock is very fine and has crisp checkering, beautiful figure, and light dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. The relined case is fine and has some cracks and mild storage wear. The accessories are very good and have minimal wear. B) “Artillerie” Marked Pistol - NSN, 42 cal., 5 1/4 inch round bbl., bright/silver finish, walnut stock. See “A.”
CONDITION: Fine with mostly bright barrel and lock with some light oxidation/pitting, mild wear on the frizzen, attractive aged patina on the silver, and some minor age and storage related wear. The stock is also very fine and has crisp checkering, beautiful figure, a scratch between the tang and tail of the lock, and a few light dings. Mechanically excellent.
