Ornate Engraved and Relief Carved Dutch Flintlock Holster Pistol From the Famous Henk L. Visser Collection - NSN, 20 bore cal., 13 1/4 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. This early 18th century pistol is featured in “The Visser Collection” Vol. 1, Part 4 on pages 458-459 and was most likely produced in Liege and has a “GR” barrel- maker’s mark below the vent (see “Der Neue Stockel” 2075) but otherwise no signature or identifying markings. Similar pistols from the Visser collection were produced by Daniel Theirmay (see Vol. 1, Part 2 pages 312-315). The smoothbore barrel has a rounded brass blade front sight, sighting flat, relief chiseled scroll and foliage patterns with some gilt backgrounds, a grotesque mask, a raised brass grotesque mask, and raised brass tang with rear sight groove. The engraved brass lock plate has a mythical beast at the center, floral patterns, borders, a lion mask cock screw, a faceted pan, and floral chiseled frizzen. The brass side plate is an elaborate pierced scrolling design inhabited by multiple mask designs. The other furniture is also brass and includes case and engraved floral patterns, a grotesque mask pommel stud, and fleur-de-lis finial on the trigger guard. The walnut stock has raised molding and raised floral carving. “1211” is marked in white on the left side above the trigger. CONDITION: Fine with mostly silver-gray patina on the iron, some minor pitting, dark aged patina on the lock plate and furniture, distinct engraving, and minor overall wear. The stock is also fine aside from repaired cracks through the wrist and forend tip and has distinct carving and molding, minor dings and scratches, and fairly light overall wear. Mechanically fine. Cased Pair of Knubley Flintlock Pistols -A) Knubley Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 68 cal., 9 3/4 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. John Knubley is listed in “Gunmakers of London” by Blackmore as a gunmaker and sword cutler from c. 1771 until his death
in 1795. He was a gunmaker to the Prince
of Wales, Duke of Clarence, and Prince Edward and also an Ordnance contractor for firearms, cannon locks, and broadswords. These officer’s style pistols have blade front sights, proof and view marks on the left at the breeches, “KNUBLEY” on the locks, scroll and floral engraving, and full-length stocks. The relined period case contains a cleaning rod, “BARTRAM & CO” marked powder flask, and ball mold with integral sprue cutter
and screwdrivers.
CONDITION: Fine with gray and brown patina along with some minor oxidation on the lock and barrel, aged patina on the brass furniture, and mild overall wear. The stock
is also fine and has some small cracks and repairs at the lock mortise and forend tip, light scratches and dings, and smooth oiled finish. Mechanically fine. The relined case and accessories are good with mild age and storage related wear. B) Knubley Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 68 cal., 9 3/4 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. See “A”. CONDITION: Fine with mostly gray patina
on the lock and barrel, some mild oxidation, aged patina on the brass furniture, and general mild overall wear. The stock is also fine and has smooth oiled finish, a faint crack extending from the front of the lock, thin tension crack on the left at the breech, and mild dings and scratches.
Mechanically fine.

      Engraved and Inlaid J. Dusseau of Culemborg Flintlock Pistol From the Famous Henk L. Visser Collection - NSN, 20 bore cal., 8 1/2 inch part octagon bbl., brown/silver/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Jan/Jean Dusseau is identified as born in Bern, Switzerland, and active in Rotterdam, Holland, c. 1748-1759 and then as the first director of the National Gun Factory at Culemborg. He died in 1777. This pistol is featured in “The Visser Collection” Vol. 1, Part 4, on pages 482-483 and dates to c. 1765. It has a smoothbore, two-stage, Damascus barrel with a silver blade front sight, banded transition, molded designs on the breech section, a copper/ brass crescent moon and tower mark (possibly a variation of the Culemborg city mark), and silver scroll, pin, and band accents. The lock is signed “I * DUSSEAU/A * CULEMBURG” (sic) and has a bridled pan, beveled edges, and groove in the pointed tail. The furniture is gilt brass with rococo style floral and scroll patterns. The stock has raised molding, tear drop flats, a raised relief rococo design at the barrel tang,”1075” in white on the left side, and nice figure. CONDITION: Very good with attractive Damascus patterns, aged patina on the brass and silver, dark gray and brown patina on the iron, resurfaced frizzen, minor pitting, and general mild wear. The restored stock is good and has repaired cracks in the wrist and forend, distinct carving, and minor dings and scratches. Mechanically fine. Provenance: The H.L.
