Civil War Era Model 1860 Cavalry Officer’s Saber with Scabbard - This sword has a lighter 35 1/8 inch long curved blade (measured straight) than a standard Model 1860 with classical, floral, and patriotic themed etching as well as some scroll and floral patterns on the hilt. The grip is wrapped in black leather and both single strand and twisted wire. The iron scabbard’s gilt bronze/brass fittings are particularly ornate and include acorn and oak leaf designs on the drag, additional scroll and floral patterns on the other fittings, and a patriotic shield and swords. CONDITION: Very good with a mostly bright blade with distinct etching, some mild pitting mainly towards the tip, and mild wear; mostly aged patina on the hilt and scabbard fittings, and dark mottled gray and brown patina on the scabbard body. Civil War 1861 Dated Martially Inspected Ames Model 1850 Foot Officer’s Sword and Scabbard - The Model 1850 Foot Officer’s sword was the standard company grade officer’s sword from 1850 to 1872 and was manufactured by several companies, particularly during the Civil War when demand was exceptionally high. This sword from the Ames Manufacturing Co. is dated “1861” on the right ricasso below “US/J.H.” The 30 5/8 inch long blade has classical martial and patriotic etching and the etched Ames maker’s mark. The brass hilt and scabbard fittings are gilded, and the hilt has the usual floral patterns. The grip is wrapped in alternating brass wire and black shagreen. The scabbard body is black leather. The revers of the upper suspension band hat the Ames Mfg. Co. markings. CONDITION: Very good with mild gray patina and distinct etching on the blade, strong gilt finish and aged patina on the hilt and scabbard fittings, moderate age and handling wear on the grip, and some scraped and minor cracking on the leather. Overall, this is a very attractive Civil War Model 1850 Foot Officer’s Sword. Estimate: 2,000 - 3,000

Civil War Era Henry Sauerbier Foot Officer’s Sword with Scabbard - Henry Sauerbier (1822-1886) was a German born businessman in Newark, New Jersey, and received a contract for field grade and presentation swords during the Civil War, but his production was very limited making examples like this desirable. It has a curved blade measuring 32 inches straight from the tip to the hilt with acanthus and patriotic etching, “H. Sauerbier/Newark/NJ” etched on the left ricasso, and “iron proof” etched on the spine. The gilt brass hilt has floral designs and a twisted brass wire wrapped black leather grip. Includes a gilt iron scabbard. CONDITION: Very good with silver-gray patina, distinct etching, and small patches of mild pitting on the blade; traces of gilt finish on the hilt along with nice aged patina on the balance, moderate wear on the grip including some loose wire, and general mild overall wear. The scabbard has traces of gold in the protected areas and otherwise a dark mottled brown patina. Estimate: 1,600 - 2,500

U.S. Springfield Model 1870 Type I Alteration Sharps New Model 1863 Breech Loading Infantry Rifle - Serial no. C,35506, 50-70 cal., 35 inch round bbl., bright/ casehardened finish, walnut stock. This is a solid representative example of an 1870 Springfield Armory alteration of a Sharps New Model 1863 percussion rifle to cartridge configuration using newly fabricated components. Only around 700 of these First Type Sharps alterations were assembled by Springfield Armory. It has a military style block front sight that doubles as a lug for a socket bayonet, folding Springfield rifle rear sight, matching serial numbers on the upper tang and left side of the barrel,
standard Sharps markings, a script “ESA” cartouche on the left side of the wrist, and “E.W. COOK” and another unclear stamp just behind the lower tang. An Elliott W. Cook was a percussion rifle maker in Lockport, New York, c. 1840s-1870s. CONDITION: Very good with 25% arsenal refinished case colors, mostly gray and brown patina throughout, some minor oxidation, and generally minor overall wear. The re-oiled wood is also very good and has some scattered minor dings and scratches, some chipping along the cleaning rod channel, and Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750
