Colt First Generation Single Action Army Revolver with Postwar Black Box - Serial no. 356441, 45 LC cal., 7 1/2 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, hard rubber grips. Manufactured in 1938. The barrel is stamped with the one- line Hartford address on top and “COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45 on the left side. The left side of the frame has the two-line patent dates marking followed by a Rampant Colt. The left side of the trigger guard has a Colt factory triangle proof and the number “4.” Matching serial number on the frame and right side of the trigger guard and back strap under the grip. The cylinder has the matching partial serial number “41” on the rear face. Matching assembly number on the loading gate and back of the frame. The Colt factory black box is numbered to a different gun and has a partial end label. Also includes “Handling the Handgun” pamphlet, warranty card filled out to a different SAA, and instructions. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 95% plus refinished blue finish showing some scattered minor thinning and a faint cylinder drag line. 95% refurbished case colors remain on the frame. The grips are also very fine with a few minor handling marks and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Box is very good with a couple split corners and tape repairs. Colt First Generation Single Action
Army Revolver in Scarce Dual Caliber .44 Russian/.44 S&W Special - Serial no. 353696,
44 Russian S&W special cal., 5 1/2 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut grips. This
revolver was manufactured in 1929 and is chambered for both .44 Russian and
.44 S&W Special cartridges. Estimates list only 506 Single Action Army revolvers manufactured for .44 S&W Special. Prior to the introduction of the .44 Special to the Colt
line, only 154 Single Action Army revolvers were manufactured for the .44 Russian cartridge upon which the .44 Special was based. The trigger guard has the Colt factory rework “&” mark on the right side and Colt factory triangle and number “3” on the left side. The revolver wears a set of Colt medallion diamond checkered walnut grips. Matching serial numbers are on the frame, trigger guard and back strap.
CONDITION: Fine. The barrel, ejector housing and grip straps retain 80% original blue finish with thinning to gray on the balance. The unserialized cylinder is refinished and is a mix of blue and gray patina. The frame and hammer retain 60% original case colors. There are a few scattered patches of pitting, heaviest on the left side of the barrel with some cold blue visible in this area. The replacement grips are very fine with crisp checkering.
