C. Crause Signed xhibition Quality Engraved, Silver and Gold Inlaid Side by Side Percussion Pistol - Serial no. 2253, 38 cal., 7 1/2 inch solid rib bbl., brown/ casehardened/gold/silver finish, walnut stock. Carl Philipp Crause (1778-1857) of Herzberg am Harz is identified as the director of the Herzberg Arms Factory starting in 1808 and purchased it in 1816. His sons continued the business after his death in 1857. This fine percussion pistol has rifled barrels, a nickel silver blade front sight accented by a gold inlaid arrow, “C. CRAUSE IN HERZBERG AM HARZ” in gold inlay, and gold and silver inlaid accents; gold and silver floral scrollwork on the barrels, gold bands at the muzzles and breech, “2” on the underside of each barrel and breech plug, a screw adjustable notch rear sight on the standing breech, long upper tang with a closing slot for mounting a shoulder stock, “C. CRAUSE” behind the right hammer, “IN HERZBERG.” by the left hammer, rotating hammer stalls, extensive scroll engraving and wavy line gold inlaid borders throughout, spurred trigger guard, “2” and “2253” on the pommel cap, and half-length stock with checkered wrist and flared pommel. CONDITION: Fine with bright gold, aged patina on the silver, crisp engraving, light Damascus patterns, traces of original brown and case colors, mostly smooth gray and brown patina on the balance, some minor oxidation, and minor overall wear. The stock is very fine with most of the original varnish and has distinct checkering, light scratches and dings, and minor edge wear. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,500 - 4,000

Fine Engraved Westley Richards Double Barrel Percussion Traveling Pistol - NSN, 20 bore cal., 5 inch solid rib bbl., brown/casehardened/blue finish, walnut stock. Browned Damascus barrels signed “WESTLEY RICHARDS,” bead front sight, and captive ramrod fitted beneath. Casehardened engraved patent breeches each with pierced platinum plug and short inlaid platinum line. Casehardened scroll engraved standing breech and locks, the latter each signed “WESTLEY RICHARDS” and with safety catches. Blued engraved ramrod entry pipe and trigger guard, casehardened trigger plate. Well-figured walnut stock with checkered butt and dark horn forearm cap, the blank German silver initial escutcheon and barrel key escutcheons. Birmingham proof marks. CONDITION: Fine. The barrels retain much of the faded older rebrowned finish and have a clear signature. The standing breech and locks retain 60% fading original casehardened finish and crisp engraving. The trigger guard and ramrod entry pipe retain 90% original deep blue finish. The stock has pleasing figure patterns, well-defined checkering, and scattered age related storage and handling blemishes and marks. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,500 - 2,500

Pair of Silver Inlaid Jacob Kuchenreuter Percussion Pistols -A) Jacob Kuchenreuter Percussion Pistol - NSN, 50 cal., 8 3/4 inch octagon bbl., brown/casehardened finish, walnut stock. A pair of identical silver inlaid Jacob Kuchenreuter percussion converted pistols. “JACOB KUCHENREUTER” is inlaid in silver on the top barrel flat with silver inlaid scrollwork flanking the maker’s marking. The upper tang is marked with the number “1”. The furniture and ornate thumb shield are brass. Equipped with a set trigger. The varnished full stock features a floral carving behind the upper tang, flared butt with brass cap, and a horn forend cap. Complete with a wooden ramrod with contrasting tip. CONDITION: Fine. The barrel retains 90% of the thinned original brown finish with some minor spotting. The breech plug, upper tang, hammer, and lock plate retain 80% original case colors. The gilted brass is fine with most remaining. Most of the silver inlay remains except for the second letter “E” in the barrel address which has lifted off. The stock is fine with numerous minor dents and dings, along with a series of shallow pressure marks on the right side of the forearm and the horn forend cap is missing a couple large chips (left side). Mechanically functions fine. B) Jacob Kuchenreuter Percussion Converted Pistol - NSN, 50 cal., 8 3/4 inch octagon bbl., brown/casehardened finish, walnut stock. As described in “A”, but with the number “2” on the upper tang. CONDITION: Fine. The barrel retains 90% thinned original brown finish with limited minor spotting. The breech plug, upper tang, hammer, and lock plate retain 80% original case colors. The hammer has been repaired and does not hold at the full cock position. The gilted brass is fine with most remaining. Most of the silver inlay remains except for the second letter “E” in the barrel address which has lifted off. The stock is fine with numerous minor dents and dings and a couple small chips missing from the horn forend cap. Mechanically functions fine, but does not stay at full cock. Estimate: 2,500 - 3,750

Long Barreled Pair of Engraved Prosser Percussion Dueling/ Target Pistols -A) Prosser Percussion Pistol - NSN, 47 cal., 11 3/8 inch octagon bbl., brown/casehardened/blue finish, walnut stock. Cutler and gunmaker John Prosser operated at 9 Charing Cross, London, from 1796 to 1853 and then worked at 37 Charing Cross from 1854 to 1860. These pistols have long, rifled, Damascus barrels with fixed German silver blade and notch sights and Birmingham proofs. The locks are signed “PROSSER” and have scroll and border engraving. The casehardened breech plugs and standing breeches have shell, scroll, and border engraving. The blued trigger guards also have scroll engraving and enclose single set triggers. The trigger plates have engraved pineapple finials, and there are burst and border patterns engraved on the entry pipes. The wedge and wrist escutcheons are German silver. The stocks also have horn forend tips, checkered wrists with a profile similar to the later Colt Bisley revolvers, and flared pommel. CONDITION: Fine with 70% plus original blue on the trigger guard, 40% plus muted original case colors, mix of gray and brown and distinct Damascus patterns along the barrel, minor pitting, and generally light overall wear. The stock is very good and has crisp recut checkering, light scratches, and smooth oiled finish. Mechanically excellent. B) Prosser Percussion Pistol - NSN, 47 cal., 11 3/8 inch octagon bbl., brown/ casehardened/blue finish, walnut stock. See “A.” CONDITION: Very good with traces of original finish, mostly gray and brown patina, some minor oxidation and pitting, mild overall wear, and distinct Damascus patterns and engraving. The stock is also very good and has a pinned chip on the left, some scratches and dings, distinct checkering, and smooth oiled finish. The set trigger needs a little adjustment, but the lock is mechanically fine. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750
