Colt 1860 Army,
subsequently master
engraved by the world renowned firm of Adams & Adams as a run of a mere 35 pieces, and finished by Doug Turnbull. Below the serial number is the signature “J. ADAMS”. The revolver is housed in an Adams & Adams made hardwood case with maroon velvet lining and a mirror inserted into the lid. A brass plaque on the exterior reads “ADAMS & ADAMS/NORTH SOUTH/~1861 CIVIL WAR/SESQUICENTENNIAL 2011~/COMMEMORATIVE 1860 ARMY”. The included invoice for the revolver and case is signed by John Adams Jr. likely pointing to him as the engraver.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine overall as masterfully engraved by John Adams. Retaining 99% plus Doug Turnbull high gloss blue and vibrant case colors with limited handling marks, an exceptionally faint cylinder drag line, and crisp engraving. Mechanically excellent. Case is excellent with minimal storage and handling marks and light high edge wear on the lining.

Rare Cased Frank Klay Upgraded Engraved Colt Blackpowder Series 1851 Navy Percussion Revolver with Accessories - Serial no. 24642, 36 cal., 7 1/2 inch octagon bbl., blue/ casehardened/silver finish, walnut grips. Manufactured in 1978 and subsequently refinished and upgraded by Frank Klay. The barrel shows a band of wavy line engraving at the breech as well as floral scroll engraving on
the sides surrounding the logo of the
United States Merchant Marine Academy on the
left and an anchor and rope motif on the right.
The frame displays near full coverage floral scroll
with rope accents on the recoil shield as well as Frank Klay’s signature “K” stamp below the serial
number. The hammer is engraved with a dragon’s head motif. The gripstrap is inscribed “Acta
Non Verba” or “Deeds Not Words”, the motto of the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
The consignor attributes the engraving to Alvin A. White, which is certainly within the realm of
possibility given the quality of the work. The wood case has a shield shaped plaque engraved with
the United States Merchant Marine Academy logo as well as a banner reading “A.M.”, containing a
martial themed powder flask, “L” shaped combination tool, dual cavity “Colt’s Patent” bullet mould, several balls and conical projectiles, two paper cartridges, Eley Bros. cap tin, and an extra cylinder numbered to the gun. All accessories are stamped with the same “K” stamp as the revolver indicating they were finished by Klay as well. Includes a protective sleeve for the case with label reading “From the/Colt Custom/Gun Shop.../The Klay-Colt 1851 Navy/Early Third Model/A very limited edition of 150/& a special engraved edition of 50.”
CONDITION: Excellent as professionally finished by Frank Klay, retaining 99% plus blue and silver finishes and case colors with slight softening to the barrel address and spare cylinder scene, an attractive dark aged patina on the silver, and crisp engraving. Mechanically excellent. Case is very fine with some light storage and handling marks as well as patina on the lid plaque. All accessories are very fine with light storage and handling marks. This is a rare opportunity to own a highly regarded Frank Klay upgraded 1851 Navy reissue.

Unmarked Copy of a Colt Texas Paterson Revolver - Serial no.
873, 36 cal., 9 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, carved grips. Features German
silver blade front and hammer notch rear sights with a band of light floral engraving
at the muzzle and on either side of the barrel coming from the breech. The frame and recoil
shield is engraved in a similar manner with light floral engraving. Silver bands have been inlaid
at the muzzle, front and rear of the cylinder, and front of the recoil shield. Partial bands are inlaid
on the bottom of the barrel, and on top of the barrel at the cylinder.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 95% original blue finish with scattered handling marks, spots
of pitting on the front and back straps, a cylinder drag line, dings at the rear of the cylinder. Grip is excellent with limited handling marks and a small repair on the left side. Mechanically needs adjustment as the cylinder does not properly rotate and the hammer sticks in the third notch.
