The back action locks and furniture also feature gold inlaid scrolls and borders
as well as scroll and game scene engraving with multiple types of birds, red stag, a roebuck, a rabbit, setters, and a fox. Both locks have “COGNIER A STRASBOURG” in gold behind the hammers. The trigger guard has a scrolling plate on the
front. Sling swivels are fitted to the middle ramrod ferrule and bottom of the stock. The stock is finely figured and has checkering, a nicely shaped comb
and cheekpiece, and 13 7/8 inch length of pull. The ramrod has a horn tip and threaded worm. The figured maple case is fitted to the gun and extra barrel set and contains several accessories, including a ball mold with sprue cutter. CONDITION: Very fine with crisp engraving, 85% plus brown finish, bright gold,
mostly French gray coloration on the locks and furniture, some mild oxidation, and generally minimal overall age and storage related wear. The stock is also very fine and has crisp checkering, nice figure, smooth finish, some filled holes in the figure, and light dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. The relined case and accessories are very good with mostly mild age and storage related wear and some cracks in the wood. Overall, a stunning cased set. This beautiful combination gun would have made for an excellent all-around hunting gun for birds, small game, and medium game.
