Elaborate Gold Damascened and Silver Inlaid Flintlock Rifle - NSN, 50 cal., 36
3/4 inch octagon bbl., bright/gold/silver finish, walnut stock. This 19th century rifle is
very European in design but very Ottoman in decoration and has no visible markings.
The rifled barrel has a blade front sight, a notch and folding ladder rear sight with gold scroll patterns and pierced decorative finial, and additional
gold Damascened scrollwork at the muzzle, midsection, breech, and tang. The lock also has some gold scroll patterns. The furniture is mainly silver,
and the stock has numerous silver/silver alloy inlays in pierced scroll patterns.
CONDITION: Very good with gray and brown patina on the iron, 75% plus of the original gold remaining, some patches of mild pitting, aged patina on
the silver, aged patina and verdigris on the accents, and general mild overall wear. The period refinished stock is good and has some small chips and cracks concentrated in the forend, some loss at the breech, and mild scratches and dings. Mechanically fine.
