 LOT 3276 Wakizashi Length Japanese Sword with Case - Measuring 24 1/2 inches overall, with a 17 1/2 inch blade, showing a straight hamon, a set of two bo-hi grooves on each side, and a two piece gold washed habaki which is sculpted to match the larger grooves. fitted with a round iron tsuba with pierced through designs, gold accented blackened fuchi, black horn kashira, green suede wrap over gold accented oxen and cart themed menuki, and a black lacquer saya with matching ox cart decoration on the kogatana. The tang shows three mekugi-ana, with the larger of the bo-hi running clear off the end and no visible signature. With an embroidered cloth case. CONDITION: Very good overall. Areas of spotting and discoloration are present on the blade, with some nicks along the edge, evidence of polishing on the right side, and mild wear/handling marks. The tsuba shows heavier oxidization and a deep brown patina, the saya shows minor scuffing and chipping of the finish, and the furniture is generally fine. Estimate: 1,600 - 2,500
LOT 3277 Signed Japanese Sword - 37 inches in overall length, with a 25 1/2 inch blade with a jagged hamon and fine grain set into a copper habaki with angled serrations. The round iron tsuba is pierced through with leaf patterns, and the fuchi and kashira are blackened with gold paulownia floral motifs in the 3-5-3 pattern used by the modern Imperial Guard Headquarters and Ministry of Justice. The grip has a red cord wrap, with a brown suede and leather cover on the saya. The tang has one mekugi-ana, with a 6-symbol signature on the right side, 12 on the left. CONDITION: Fine. The otherwise fine blade shows a few rough oxidized patches, scattered light spotting, and strong hamon, with some additional oxidization of the tsuba and mild handling marks on very fine the furniture. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750

Unsigned Japanese Sword -
Measuring 37 inches overall, with a 26 inch blade showing a wavy hamon and very active grain fitted into a copper habaki. The round iron tsuba is lightly sculpted with one copper accent piece on tip, with lightly engraved darkened brass fuchi and kashira, dark cord wrap over dragon themed menuki, and a leather covered saya with traces of a cloth label with black ink handwriting. The tang features one mekugi-ana with no visible signature. CONDITION: Fine overall. Patches of spotting are present on the otherwise very fine blade, concentrated on the right side, some separations forming in the grain, an overall bright appearance, and strong hamon. The tsuba has turned a deep brown patina with pitting on much of the surface, with mild staining and wear on the hilt and scuffs and tears of the leather cover on the saya. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,500
LOT 3279 Signed Japanese Shin Gunto Sword - Measuring 36 inches overall, with a 25 1/2 inch blade, showing a mostly straight hamon with jagged accents and fine grain set into a copper habaki, with a round blackened brass tsuba, nickel washed furniture, and a black painted saya. The tang has a single mekugi-ana, with faded paint markings on the right side and a Seki Arsenal stamp on the left over a six-symbol carved signature. CONDITION: Very good. The very fine blade shows minor spotting with a few small areas of deeper pitting concentrated towards the tip and some dings on the spine, with an overall bright color and strong hamon. The furniture shows mild wear and staining, and the saya shows some touched up paint. Estimate: 1,600 - 2,500
LOT 3280 Tanto-Length Japanese Knife with Case - Measuring 15 1/2 inches overall, with a 9 3/4 inch blade, showing a straight hamon and fine grain, set into a silver finished habaki. The hilt furniture is brass with bamboo-shaped silver accents, with a set of mekugi featuring a buddha-like figure flanked by “nail puller” emblems over the brown cord wrap. Similar furniture is on the textured brown lacquer saya, with a crustacean design on the brass hilted kogatana. The tang is unsigned, with one mekugi-ana. With an embroidered cloth case. CONDITION: Very good overall, with some tiny chips in the edge near the tip, a few spots of open grain on the left side, and an overall bright surface with clear hamon. The saya shows some cracking and splitting, otherwise the accessories are very good. Estimate: 1,600 - 2,500
