Rifle with Unertl Scope - NSN, 270 cal., 26 inch heavy round bbl., blue/bright finish, walnut stock.
Notes included by the consignor date the manufacture of this interesting rifle to 1947. The left side of the heavy
bull barrel is marked “-PFEIFER RIFLE CO.-/-ROSCOE CALIF.-”, “270 P.R./PFEIFER L.A.” at the breech, and it is fitted with scope
blocks. The rifle appears to be chambered for the .270/348 Pfeifer Rimmed cartridge. The bright Farquharson action has been masterfully
engraved with near full coverage floral scroll and game/hunting scenes by Arnold Greibel. The scene on the left features two foxes and the scene on the right features a
pointing setter. The floral scroll engraving extends to the upper tang, lever, and trigger guard. The scope blocks are fitted with J. Unertl scope rings and an included 12x J. Unertl scope. It is mounted with a finely figured, multi-point checkered beavertail forearm with contrasting ebony
tip, and a pistol grip stock with contrasting ebony grip cap, large “roll over” cheek piece, sling swivel studs,
and a checkered steel buttplate. Also included is a Pelican Vault case, reloading tools marked as for .270
“PHEIFER RIMMED”, an assortment of .348 Win. cases, and a case of Speer, .270 130 gr. bullets.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine as professionally upgraded and masterfully engraved, retains 98% of the blue finish with
some scratches and the receiver almost entirely bright with crisp engraving. The scope retains 95% plus of the original blue finish and has clear optics. The wood is also very fine with a few scattered light handling marks, crisp checkering, and some light wear on the cheekpiece. Mechanically excellent. A great work of firearms art by Arnold Griebel.
