The left shows a pointer in a field scene, the right has a setter in a field scene, the underside shows an eagle pulling a salmon from a river in a mountain scene, and a bust of a setter on the triggerguard all rendered in highly detailed gold inlay. The gun features a gold
plated single selective trigger and tang mounted automatic safety switch with gold “SAFE”. Gorgeously figured, fancy 21-B pattern fleur-de-lis checkered beavertail forend with
engraved fittings, “CUSTOM MADE/FOR/E. E. ULRICH” marked in gold on the shoe, rotary latch release, and ebony tip inlay. The pistol grip stock is of the same exceptional quality with
matching fleur-de-lis checkering and engraved and gold inlaid “GRAND/AMERICAN” grip cap, blank gold inscription oval, and checkered bare butt. The gun includes a second matching barrel set in 16 gauge with matching engraving, rib marking, and its own beavertail forend with matching gold inlaid shoe. The extra barrel measures 28 inches and features 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors and
choke marked “MOD”/”FULL”. Also included is a leather bound Winchester takedown case with four nickel snap caps,
nickel oiler, Model 21 advertising, and part of an autobiographical article on Edward E. Ulrich from the Autumn 1999 “Double Gun Journal”.
A set of guns custom built for Ulrich with similar engraving are pictured on page 322 of Ned Schwing’s “Winchesters Finest: The Model
21” in which it is stated that Nick Kusmit carried out the engraving on that set. The previous two lots are numbered in sequence to this
gun. Barrel measurements for the extra set (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .663/.663 inches; choke constriction .014/.027
inches; minimum wall thickness .027/.030 inches. Barrel and stock measurements primary set (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .662/.662 inches; choke constriction .007/.014 inches; minimum wall thickness .032/.035 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 3/8 inch drop at heel; 14 5/16 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs 7 oz.

Provenance: The Buffalo Bill Center of the West.
