Large Framed Colorized Print of “Working a Herd Among Old Buffalo Wallows” by L.A. Huffman - The exposed portion of this colorized print measures 12 1/2 x 19 1/2 inches and features a fantastic scene of cowboys at work rounding up cattle in the Powder River region of Montana, with a large buffalo wallow in the foreground. The lower left is marked “Working a Herd Among
Old Buffalo Wallows-Powder River 1886”, and the lower right has L.A. Huffman’s copyright, both in black ink. “BBW191” is marked in red on the glass of the frame in the lower right. The hardwood frame measures 14 1/4 x 21 1/4 inches. Laton Alton Huffman (1854-1931) was among the few photographers to capture the landscape, Native Americans, wildlife, and ranching life in Montana in the late
19th and
early 20th
centuries,
and became
one of the legendary photographers of the American west.
CONDITION: Very fine, the image distinct with vibrant color that shows very minimal fading. There is some light scattered white speckling that appears to be on the glass of the frame not the print itself. The frame is very good with a few scattered minor handling/storage.
