Antique Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle - Serial no. 258096B, 32 WCF cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured
in 1888 as a Third Model with integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated rear edge. The Model 1873 was extremely popular with those heading to the American West, in part because they could be paired with a trusty Colt Single Action Army revolver in the same caliber. It has standard markings including the tw
o-line Winchester address/King’s patent marking on the top of the barrel along with the caliber marking at the breech. The upper tang is marked with the model designation, serial number on the lower tang, and caliber marking repeated on the cartridge elevator. It is fitted with German silver blade front and elevation adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sights. It is mounted with a
smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.
CONDITION: Very good, retains 30% plus of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to mostly a plum-brown patina and some scattered light surface pitting, having the look of a rifle that was carried for many years by a trusting rancher or homesteader alongside a trusty Colt. The wood is also very good showing scattered light dings and scratches typical of a working rifle. Mechanically excellent. A rifle that is easy to imagine paired with a Colt of the same caliber, both protecting their owner for many years!
