LOT 3050 Very Scarce Winchester Model 1885 Takedown High Wall 20 Gauge Shotgun - Serial no. 113712, 20 gauge, 26 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. The Winchester Model 1885 is based on John Moses Browning’s first of many firearms patents and was produced in a wide variety of rifle calibers and configurations. However, the company also produced a small number of Model 1885s as 20 gauge shotguns in the early 20th century. This rare Winchester shotgun was manufactured in 1913 with a plain barrel with a brass bead front sight, the two-line Winchester address and patent marking followed by the two-line nickel steel marking and “20 GA.” and “FULL” markings on the left side, “WP” proofs on top of the barrel and action, the latter location offset to the left due to the wavy line “matting” on the top of the frame, the three-line trade mark legend on the upper tang, the serial number on the lower tang followed by “A” at the rear, smooth Schnabel tip forearm with contrasting inlay, and straight grip stock with section of stunning figure on both sides at the toe and 13 1/4 inch length of pull. The chamber appears to be 2 3/4 inches. CONDITION: Fine with 60% plus original blue finish overall, some thinning at the muzzle, flaking and minor oxidation mainly on the frame, strong original case colors on the breech and lever, and general minor overall wear. The wood is also fine and has some light scratches and marks on the sides of the forearm, the noted figure on the refinished buttstock, some minor edge wear, and a faint crack at the upper tang. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,250 - 3,500
