Desirable Martial Inspected Civil War New Haven Arms Co. Henry Lever Action Rifle -
Serial no. 7832, 44 Henry RF cal., 24 3/8 inch octagon bbl., blue/brass finish, walnut stock. This classic Henry rifle
dates to late 1864 to early 1865 towards the end of the American Civil War while Union forces were tightening the noose around the Confederacy. As the
war went on, an increasing number of Union soldiers purchased Henry rifles, the most advanced firearms of the war. The “sixteen shooters” gave a significant
advantage in battle, especially when the fighting was close. Some veterans used their bounties to purchase rifles. This rifle is has the martial inspection mark
“J.T” on the left side of the buttstock, a squareback German silver blade front sight, notch and ladder rear sight with top screw, the two-line patent and address
marking ahead of the rear sight, the serial number on top at the breech, the large follower and corresponding slot in the frame, brass buttplate with pointed heel,
four-piece iron cleaning rod in the buttstock, and smooth walnut stock with a sling swivel on the left and corresponding loop on the left of the frame.
CONDITION: Very good with gray and brown patina and mild oxidation/pitting on the iron, attractive deep aged patina on the brass frame and buttplate, and
mild overall wear mainly from age and storage. The top of the frame has a plugged hole at the breech. The buttstock is also fine with a clearly legible inspector
mark and has most of the original finish, scattered scratches and dings, small flakes at the toe, and fairly minor wear. Mechanically functions. Overall, this is a solid
example of the iconic Henry rifle.
Estimate: 20,000 - 30,000
