forever change your experience. Yet Frank Brownell, for over 60 years, was a mentor
and undeniable catalyst into the lives of all those around him.
Frank was born into the pantheon of giants in the firearms world. He was the son of
writer and Brownells founder, Bob Brownell. He cut his teeth around such legends
as P.O. Ackley, Elmer Keith, Jack O’Connor, Joyce Hornady, and Bill Ruger, to name
a few. After receiving a degree from the University of Iowa, and a stint in the U.S.
Navy, Frank returned to Montezuma, Iowa to work in his father’s business. Over the
decades, Frank didn’t just fill a role, he nurtured Brownells into the world’s largest
supplier of gunsmithing tools and firearms accessories. His vision and drive changed
the face of the firearms industry forever.
Always, seeking ways to advance the industry and to help others get ahead were a way
of life for Frank. He had a keen eye for bright ideas and was drawn to true passion
and infectious enthusiasm, frequently nurturing both by providing a crucial contact
or key suggestions. This kindness lifted many businesses off the ground.
But wasn’t all just a love for business. Frank also had a true love for the hunt and
the outdoors, even sending many on their very first hunt! Frank not only inspired
businessmen, and gunsmiths, but also outdoorsmen by providing each with
unimaginable opportunities to grab their dreams by the horns.
When it came to Frank’s passion
for firearms, he was an eclectic and
passionate collector. True to his
vocation and his early influences,
he had a deep appreciation for fine
craftsmanship whether that was an
established gunsmith, or the work of
a young phenom. Frank knew that
talent knows no age.
