Fine Napoleonic Wars Era British Flintlock Long Sea Service Pistol - NSN, 56-56 cal., 12 1/8 inch round bbl.,
bright finish, walnut stock. The classic Sea Service pistols were used from the mid-18th century into the early 19th
century by the Royal Navy around the globe including during the French & Indian War, American Revolution, War of 1812, and Napoleonic Wars. This fine
example dates from around the time of the latter two conflicts and has the reinforced neck on the cock and a storekeepers mark with an “18[??]” year mark. The lock is marked with “TOWER”
at the tail, the Georgian cipher, and “crown/broad arrow” at the center and has double line borders. The left rear of the barrel is marked with Ordnance proof marks. The walnut stock is
mounted with brass furniture and an iron belt hook on the left side and has the Ordnance marks on the right side of the wrist as well and “HL” and “crown/P” on the left flat.
CONDITION: Fine overall with mostly bright polished lock and barrel with some light patina and oil stains, faint pitting, attractively aged patina on the brass mounts, and mild overall wear mainly consisting of
dents and scratches on the stock. Mechanically functions.

Finely Engraved Webb Flintlock
Blunderbuss with Paktong Furniture
- NSN, 15 gauge, 18 3/4 inch part
octagon bbl., bright steel/paktong finish,
walnut stock. Manufactured circa 1775-80, quite possibly by Ann Webb of London. Ann Webb was apprenticed to Edward Bond
in 1770 before working at 108 Leadenhall Street before moving to 59 Lombard Street “at the Sign of the Golden Blunderbuss.” The iron barrel is of
three stages with octagonal breech section, round central section and flared section at the muzzle which has decorative turned moldings. The breech
section is struck with private London proof marks, signed “LONDON,” and lightly engraved with foliate scrollwork. The tang has a sighting groove and is engraved
with further foliate scrollwork and a band of beadwork. The flat beveled lock with safety catch is signed “WEBB” and engraved with border lines and foliate
scrollwork. The molded, well-figured walnut stock has fine silver wire inlaid scrollwork around the barrel tang and is fitted with cast and chased paktong furniture
including a trigger guard with acorn finial and a solid sideplate engraved with further border lines and foliate scrollwork. The wooden ramrod has a dark horn tip. The
bore measures approximately .68 caliber (15 bore) and flares to about 1 1/8 inches at the muzzle.
CONDITION: Very good. The iron parts display a light grey patina and shallow corrosion speckling, softened engraving on the barrel, clear engraving on
the lock, and some corrosion pitting around the touch hole. The re-oiled stock is also very good and has some scattered age related storage and handling
marks and bruises mostly confined to the underside beneath the lock and breech and repairs in the forend. Mechanically excellent. A very attractive
blunderbuss.

Fine Engraved Ketland & Co. Brass Barreled
Flintlock Blunderbuss with Sprung Underslung
Bayonet and Highly Unusual Brass Lock -
NSN, 28 gauge, 15 1/2 inch part octagon bbl.,
brass/bright finish, walnut stock. Manufactured
circa 1800-1810. William Ketland & Co., wholesale
manufacturers of guns and pistols, are recorded working at
2 Scots Yard, Bush Lane, Cannon Street 1785-87, at 10 Cannon Street 1788-9, at 23 Abchurch Lane, Lombard Street, London 1790-95, possibly
there also in 1800, and at Angel Court Throgmorton Street, London 1795-1800. Thereafter, the business is registered to Steelhouse Lane &
Whittall Street Birmingham 1808-31. The proof marks on the barrel are inspired by the arms of Ketland and were adopted by the Birmingham Proof House
in 1813. The brass barrel is of four stages flaring at the muzzle and divided by turned moldings. The octagonal to polygonal breech section is signed “LONDON”
and struck with private Tower proof marks. The sprung bayonet of hollow triangular cross section is fitted beneath the barrel, and the iron ramrod is housed
on the left side. The engraved iron tang has a sighting groove. The brass, flat beveled lock has a stepped tail and is signed “KETLAND & CO.” and has iron fittings
comprising safety catch, cock, and frizzen with roller. Figured walnut, half length stock fitted with engraved brass furniture including a trigger
guard incorporating the bayonet release. “DE” is marked behind the trigger guard tang. Bore estimated.
CONDITION: Fine. The brass parts have clear engraving throughout, light aged patina, minor marks and scratches, and a few darker areas. The
iron parts have a grey patina, minor pitting, and clear engraving. The stock is also fine and has scattered age related storage and handling marks.
Mechanically functions, including the sprung bayonet which snaps into position when released.

Engraved and Wire Inlaid Waters Flintlock

octagon bbl., bright/brass finish, walnut stock. John
Waters is listed on page 56 of “English Gunmakers:
The Birmingham and Provincial Gun Trade in the 18th
and 19th Century” by Bailey and Nie as active 1766-1788 and was “Granted British Patent No. 1284 of 9 Mar. 1781 for attaching bayonets to pistols;
is generally credited with the invention of the ‘spring bayonet.’ The barrel is marked with the Birmingham private “PRO” and “VED” proofs on the
upper left at the breech, and “WATERS” is on the lock. The barrel measures 18 bore and flares to approximately 1 inch at the muzzle. The lock and brass mounts feature light
engraving. The triggerguard has an acorn finial. The stock has silver wire inlays mimicking the popular shell carving design.
CONDITION: Good with attractively aged patina on the brass barrel and mounts, bent toe of the buttplate, silver-gray patina and mild pitting on the lock, and generally
distinct markings and engraving. The refinished stock is also good with some cracks and repairs, mild scratches and dings, and a chipped toe. Mechanically functions.
