Pair of Engraved and Platinum and
Silver Accented William & John
Rigby Percussion Pocket Pistols
-A) W. & J. Rigby Percussion Pocket
Pistol - NSN, 69 cal., 3 1/4 inch round
bbl., brown/casehardened/blue/silver finish, walnut stock. This c. mid-1820s to
1830s pair of pistols has swivel mounted ramrods, sighting channels on the top
of the smoothbore barrels which have bead front sights and “DUBLIN” inscriptions,
pierced platinum plugged breech with dual
platinum bands, “WM &JN RIGBY” at the
center of the lock, foliate engraving,
a dog head design on the hammer,
silver grip caps and escutcheons, and
checkered wrists. “T-Y 8776” and “T-Y
8777” County Tyrone Irish registration
marks on the underside of the barrels.
CONDITION: Very good with aged patina on the silver, traces of original finish,
gray and brown patina, minor oxidation/pitting, and mild overall wear. The stock
is also very good with some hairline cracks, crisp checkering, and scattered dings and scratches.
Mechanically functions. B) W. & J. Rigby Percussion Pocket Pistol - NSN, 69 cal., 3 1/4 inch round
bbl., brown/casehardened/blue/silver finish, walnut stock. As described in “A”.
CONDITION: Very good with aged patina on the silver, traces of original finish, gray and brown
patina, minor oxidation/pitting, and mild overall wear. The stock is also very good with some hairline
cracks, crisp checkering, and mild dings and scratches. Mechanically functions.

Pair of Brass Boxlock Percussion Blunderbuss Pistols with Elliptical
Muzzles and Snap Bayonets
-A) Percussion Pistol - NSN, 45 cal.,
4 1/4 inch round bbl., brass finish,
hardwood grips. This c. 1830s pair has
no identifying
markings
and is lightly
engraved. The barrels are 1 1/2 inches
wide and 7/8 of an inch tall at the muzzle
and are mounted with folding sprung
bayonets that release by sliding the
trigger guards. Fitted with burl
figured grips
with small
holes on the butts from now absent lanyard loops.
CONDITION: Fine with attractive aged patina on the brass, strong original casehardened finish on the
hammer, gray and brown patina on the bayonet and trigger guard, filled hole on the butt, and minor
overall wear, including some oxidation and minor cracks in the grip. The bayonet bounces when released;
otherwise the mechanisms function. B) Percussion Pistol - NSN, 45 cal., 4 1/4 inch round bbl., brass finish,
hardwood grips. As described in “A”.
CONDITION: Fine with attractive aged patina on the brass, small flaw on the left at the breech, some original
case colors on the hammer, gray and brown patina on the bayonet and trigger guard, bent bayonet tip, and
mild overall wear, including some oxidation and small chip on the grip. The bayonet latch is weak, but the
mechanisms function.

Cased Engraved and Nickel Plated Cogswell & Harrison Retailed Tranter Patent “M.1868” (2nd Pattern)
Double Action Centerfire Revolver - Serial no. 53366, 450 cal., 6 inch octagon bbl., nickel finish, walnut grips.
With nickel plated octagonal barrel signed “COGSWELL & HARRISON / ,223 & 224 STRAND” on the upper sighting
flat and with blade front sight. Nickel plated frame marked “W. TRANTER’S PATENT” on the left side and with
grooved top strap forming the rear sighting and hinged loading gate. Figured walnut butt with multi-point
checkering and cap. Border and scroll engraved throughout. Birmingham black powder proof marks. In fitted
oak case lined in green baize, the lid with printed Cogswell & Harrison trade label. With Hawksley pewter oiler,
turnscrew and cleaning rod.
CONDITION: Fine. The revolver retains 60% original nickel plated finish throughout. The barrel, butt cap, and
areas of the frame have shallow pitting. The butt has some age related staining and minor storage and handling
blemishes and retains sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with light age related
storage marking. The lining remains very good with fine retailer label inside lid.

Very Fine Cased Engraved J. R. Cooper Patent Underhammer Percussion Pepperbox Revolver - NSN, 38
cal., 3 inch fluted bbl., casehardened finish, walnut grips. Joseph Rock Cooper received patent No. 12,781 of 20
September 1849 for his pepperbox design. Features Birmingham proof marks, “J.R. COOPER/PATENTEE” on the left
side plate, scroll engraving, and smooth walnut grips. Includes a figured hardwood case with blue lining, a Robert
Scott trade label, and fitted interior containing balls and a key in the upper right compartment, a small Hawksley
oiler, “80” marked ball mold, loading and cleaning rod, cap tin, small powder flask, wads, nipple wrench with pick,
screwdriver, and wad cutter.
CONDITION: Very fine overall with 70% plus original casehardened finish, crisp engraving, and minor wear.
Mechanically functions. The relined case and the accessories are fine with some separation on the case lid and
generally minor age and storage wear.
