walnut stock. This incredibly beautiful deluxe
presentation shotgun from royal gunmaker
Adolphe Jansen is featured and discussed on
pages 82-83 of “Decorated Firearms 1540-
1870 from the Collection of Clay P. Bedford”
by Gusler and Lavin and is dated 1866. The
bottom of the frame features the Belgian
royal coat of arms in gold with the Order of
the Garter, and the case lid likewise displays
the coat of arms and Order of the Garter in
gold along with the inscription “DONNÉ PAR
LE ROI DES BELGES A SIR CHARLES GEORGE
YOUNG ROI D’ARMES DU TRÉS NOBLE ORDRE
DE LA JARRETIÈRE” which has been translated
to “Given by the King of the Belgians to Sir
Charles George Young, King of Arms of the
Most Noble Order of the Garter”.
