LOT 1340
U.S.M.C. Property Marked Remington Model 40-X
Single Shot Bolt Action Target Rifle, Inscribed as a Marine Corps Trophy Rifle to Individual Champion
Gunnery Sergeant Brian Zins for the 2003 National Match at Camp Perry - Serial no. 6189, 22 LR cal., 28 inch round
bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured c. September 1958, this 40-X rifle bears the “U.S.M.C. PROPERTY” marking on the
left side of the receiver, with “NATIONAL TROPHY INDIVIDUAL CHAMPION/GYSGT BRIAN H. ZINS/2003” engraved on the floorplate.
Born in 1969 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1988, Brian H. Zins was rapidly identified as a talented and promising
marksman, earning the distinction of “Top Gun” as the highest scorer with the 1911 pistol at Military Police school and getting invited
to compete shortly after his first duty report. Aside from a three year stint as a recruiter and service as an MP (including as a Hostage
Rescue Team Designated Marksman), much of Zins’ enlistment was spent on small arms training and marksmanship duties, with
time spent with the Weapons Training Battalion at Quantico, the Marine Corps Pistol Team (rising to NCO in Charge of the team), and
the Marksmanship Program Management Section. Retiring from the Corps in 2008 at the rank of Gunnery Sergeant, he spent time
as the National Manager of the NRA’s competitive pistol shooting division, acted as a maritime security contractor around the Horn of Africa, appeared in
two seasons of the reality show “Top Shot” (season 2 and Top Shot All-Stars), and acted as a brand ambassador and company team captain for Cabot Guns.
Among Zins’ distinctions are 11 (eleven) NRA National Pistol Championship wins, multiple state-level championships, multiple marksmanship records, and
multiple wins of the McMillian Trophy and Military Police Corps Trophy, as well as being the first Marine to earn the Distinguished Pistol Shot Badge at the
rank of Lance Corporal. An included, undated letter from GySgt Zins, verifies this rifle by serial number as a trophy weapon presented to him for being the
highest scoring active duty Marine at the NRA National Match at Camp Perry in 2003. Redfield globe front and peep rear sights, with a set of mounting
blocks on the rear quarter of the barrel and the rear receiver bridge, the aforementioned U.S.M.C. and presentation markings, and a smooth pistol grip
stock with an adjustable sling swivel/hand stop and adjustment screws on the underside of the forearm and a solid White Line recoil pad.
CONDITION: Extremely fine, 95% plus original blue finish, showing minor edge wear and handling marks. A small crack is visible in the right side of the stock near the butt, along with some scuffing/disintegration of the recoil pad,
otherwise the stock is fine with some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
