HR Guns/Chinese “AK 47” Type 56 Selective Fire Rifle, Class III/NFA Fully
Transferable Machine Gun - Serial no. 17173680, 7.62 mm cal., 16 inch round bbl.,
blue finish, hardwood stock. Manufactured by HR Guns of Florida using a “Factory 66”
Chinese trunnion, formerly saw cut stamped receiver box with Chinese marks, and other
components, this is a fine example of the Type 56 assault rifle. Manufactured in China
with material/information support from the Soviet Union, the Type 56 served as a primary
weapon of the People’s Liberation Army from 1956 into the 1980s, and still serves as a
militia/reserve weapon domestically. A popular export item, large quantities were sold
or given to North Vietnam (who would use them against Americans during the Vietnam
War and turn them against China in 1979 after relations broke down), saw action on both
sides of the Iran-Iraq War, and made it to Hollywood as the chief stand-in for the harder to
find AK-47 in many film and television productions. Fully hooded post front and tangent
notch rear sights, with the distinctive underfolding “pigsticker” bayonet under the barrel,
“56” markings on the trunnion, HR Guns and “AK-47” markings on the underside of the
receiver, and a smooth forearm, pistol grip and buttstock. Included with the lot is a tan
canvas pouch and green canvas sling.
CONDITION: Fine as professionally remanufactured/rewelded, with 95% of the refinished
blue, showing mild pitting and handling overall. The saw cut passes through the
magazine well, with a set of replaced guide rails. Some play has developed in the
trunnion/frame fit. The stock is good, with some heat damage on the forearm, cracks in
the wrist, and mild scuffs and dents overall. Mechanically excellent. Accessories are fine.
NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is
registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under
the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479.
