LOT 1369
World War II German Steyr “bnz.42” Code MP40 Submachine Gun, Class III/
NFA C&R Fully Transferable Machine Gun, with Accessories - Serial no. 7565b, 9
mm cal., 10 inch round bbl., blue finish, metal stock. Developed in the late 1930s and
issued in 1940, the MP40 submachine gun was a refined and streamlined successor
to the MP38, making extensive use of metal stampings and synthetic materials
to make a weapon robust enough to withstand the stress of war while being simple
enough to manufacture to keep up with the demand. Nearly every armed branch
and paramilitary organization in Germany made use of the MP40, and many also
found their way into the hands of opposition forces such as the French Resistance
and Poland’s Home Army, making it one of the signature weapons of the war. “MP40/
bnz.42” (Steyr) on the end cap, “WaA623” (Steyr) proofed receiver tube, with a hooded
blade front and two-leaf notch rear sights, Bakelite side panels, underfolding steel
stock and a brown leather sling. Matching numbers are present on the tube, endcap,
triggerguard and firing pin. Included with the lot are eighteen extra magazines, two
loading tools, an extra sling, soft transport case (green canvas construction with
leather hardware, “WaA337” marked), and two three-cell magazine pouches (both are
unmarked, blue/gray canvas with black leather trim, “left” and “right” set).
CONDITION: Very good, with 30% of the original blue finish, showing areas of brown
and gray patina, light scuffs, spots and dings overall. A section of the receiver tube
between the rear sight and endcap has been polished, with traces of pitting and an
applied refinished brown, with some deformation of the tube at the rear; this impedes
(but does not prevent) disassembly, but does not impact mechanical function. The
side panels are very good, with mild scuffs and dings. Mechanically excellent. Canvas
accessories are very good as reproductions, and the magazines and other accessories
are good or better overall. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully
transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms
and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a “Curios or Relic” as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11.
These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479.
Estimate: 25,000 - 37,500
