LOT 1371
Late World War II German 1945 Production StG44 Sturmgewehr
Selective Fire Rifle, Class III/NFA DEWAT Machine Gun - Serial no. 592y/45,
7.92 x 33mm Kurz cal., 16 1/2 inch round bbl., phosphate/blue finish, laminate stock. A relatively
late development in the European Theater, the Sturmgewehr (literally “assault rifle”) line of firearms
used both an unprecedented amount of stamped sheet metal for an infantry rifle as well as an
intermediate power cartridge to increase controllability in automatic fire and reduce overall ammo
weight without completely sacrificing striking power at range. The Sturmgewehr would serve as the
direct forefather to the CETME/G3 line of firearms, as well as a spiritual forefather to many Cold War
infantry weapons. The underside of the receiver is marked “byf” (Mauser) and “fxo” (Haenel), “eagle/37
and “eagle/135” proofs, with “StG44” on the left side above the trigger housing and the serial number
(592y) and date on the left side of the magazine well. Matching number on buttstock, charging
handle and trigger grouping. Bolt is a mismatched replacement. Fitted with a hooded blade front
and tangent notch rear sight, ventilated metal handguard, ribbed grip panels, a brown leather
sling and a laminated buttstock with iron jacketed heel and toe.
CONDITION: Very fine as deactivated, with 80% of the original phosphate finish and 85% of
the original blue, with spotting, areas of mixed patina, and mild wear overall. The breech has
been welded shut, with the bolt untouched. The grips and stock are fair with mild scuffs and
stains. In addition to the blocked chamber, mechanically needs work. NOTE: This weapon is
a National Firearms Act (NFA), Class 3 DEWAT that is fully transferable, which is registered with
the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C.
Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479, National Firearms Act.
Estimate: 22,500 - 35,000
