The gun was built with a blued steel barrel featuring
single white bead sight, standard Remington markings
surrounded by a six inch wedge of beautifully executed floral scroll
engraving, Remington proofs on the underside indicating a full choke,
and a 2 3/4 inch chamber. The barrel is fitted to the blued action which
displays gorgeous broad leafy scroll engraving surrounding vignette
game scenes, a bust of a dog on the trigger guard, and hand cut model and
serial number on the underside. The scenes depict a pair of setters flushing grouse in two panels on the left
side and a pair of pointers flushing quail on the right side in two separate panels, both scenes are cut in lovely
fine detail. The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured and multi-point checkered forend with engraved cap
and a pistol grip stock with a factory hard rubber grip cap, a Pachmayr recoil pad, and “W.O.C.JR” in the gold
inscription oval. According to the consignor this gun belonged to Walter Officer Caldwell Jr., a Texas rancher and banker.
Includes a suede and leather sleeve. Stock measurements: 1 9/16 inch drop at comb; 2 11/16 inch drop at heel; 15 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 1 oz.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, retaining 90% plus original blue finish on the barrel and action, 75% original blue on the magazine tube, some high edge wear, and overall mild handling
