Scarce Collector’s Set of Four Winchester Model 23 Golden Quail Double Barrel
Shotguns with Boxes and Cases -A) Winchester .410 Bore Golden Quail Shotgun -
Serial no. GQ410-210E, 410 gauge, 25 1/2 inch solid rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. This lovely set of
Winchesters was manufactured between 1984 and 1987 and is one of just 500 sets produced. Each gun in the
set is built with blued Winchester Proof Steel barrels and features a single white bead sight on the matted
solid rib which is marked “Golden Quail”, standard factory markings, wedges of scrollwork at the breech, and
chokes and chambers marked modified/full and 3 inches (.410 bore), improved cylinder/modified (quail 1/
quail 2) and 2 3/4 inches (28 gauge), improved cylinder/modified and 2 3/4 inches (20 gauge), and improved
cylinder/improved modified and 2 3/4 inches (12 gauge). The barrels of each gun are fitted to a coin finished
action with scroll engraving around a setter flushing a quail on the left, a pair of flushing
quail on the right, and a gold inlaid bust of a quail surrounded by “ONE OF 500/GOLDEN
QUAIL” on the underside. The guns each feature a single gold trigger and a tang mounted
automatic safety/selector. The guns are all fitted with a nicely figured and fleur-de-lis checkered beavertail
forend with engraved coin finished iron and a straight hand stock with checkered flats and a factory red
rubber recoil pad. Each gun includes its original factory box and a Winchester flat case. Stock measurements:
1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 7/16 inch drop at heel; 14 5/16 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 6 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue and coin finishes with minor handling evidence
and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. The box is very good and the case is
excellent. B) Winchester 28 Gauge Golden Quail Shotgun - Serial no. GQ-210E, 28 gauge, 25 1/2 inch solid
rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. As described in “A”. Stock measurements: 1 1/2 inch
drop at comb; 2 5/16 inch drop at heel; 14 3/8 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 14 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue and coin finishes with minor handling evidence,
some dried grease, and sharp checkering on the wood. Mechanically excellent. The box is very good, and the
case is excellent. C) Winchester 20 Gauge Golden Quail Shotgun - Serial no. GQ20-210E, 20 gauge, 25 1/2
inch solid rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. As described in “A”. Stock measurements: 1 3/8 inch drop at
comb; 2 5/16 inch drop at heel; 14 5/16 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 12 oz.

14 3/8 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 13 oz.

Winchester Model 23 Custom Double Barrel Shotgun with Case - Serial no.
PWK012432E, 12 gauge, 27 inch vent rib bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Introduced in
1978. Built with blued Winchester Proof Steel barrels featuring dual white bead sights on the matted flat
vent rib, standard markings, Winchoke system (improved cylinder/improved modified installed), and 3
inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The action is blued and features a single gold trigger and a tang
mounted manual safety/selector. The beavertail forend and pistol grip stock are nicely figured and multi-
point checkered with blued iron and grip cap and a black rubber recoil pad. Includes a Winchester flat case
and five extra chokes (skeet, improved cylinder, modified, full, and extra full). Stock measurements: 1 3/8
inch drop at comb; 2 5/16 inch drop at heel; 14 5/8 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 7 oz.
CONDITION: Very good overall, with 98% original blue finish, some minor spotting near the breech, light
handling evidence, and a few pressure marks and sharp checkering on the wood. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good.

Factory Engraved Winchester Model 23 XTR Pigeon Grade Double Barrel Shotgun with Case - Serial
no. PWK010965E, 12 gauge, 25 1/2 inch vent rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock.
Manufactured between 1978 and 1987. Built with blued Winchester Proof Steel barrels
featuring dual white bead sights on the matted vent rib, 3 inch chambers with ejectors,
chokes marked improved cylinder/modified. The barrels are fitted to the coin finished action which displays
game birds and scroll engraving and features a single trigger and a tang mounted automatic safety/selector.
The gun is fitted with a lightly figured multi-point checkered forend with engraved fittings and pistol grip stock.
Includes a Winchester luggage style takedown case. Stock measurements: 1 7/16 inch drop at the comb; 2 3/8
inch drop at the heel; 14 3/8 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 2 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent, with 99% original blue and coin finishes and some minor handling evidence. The wood is
very good with some dings and scratches and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good.
