Exceptional, Rare and Desirable Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action
Saddle Ring Trapper’s Carbine with 16 Inch Barrel - Serial no. 844640, 44 WCF
cal., 16 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. This is an exceptional example of a
Winchester Model 1892 “Trapper’s” carbine with 16-inch barrel and full length magazine. (This seldom
encountered barrel length is desirable in that it requires no BATF exemption).
This carbine was manufactured in 1916 and has an all blue finish. The straight
grain walnut stock and forend are oil finished. The stock has a blued steel carbine buttplate.
A saddle ring and staple are mounted on the left side of the receiver with a short leather strap on the ring. The hammer is
checkered with a plain border. The barrel has the standard Model 1892 front sight with steel base and pinned blade and it
is fitted with a standard Winchester folding leaf carbine sight graduated to 200 yards (“20”). The left side, front of the barrel
is marked: “MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. / NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED OCTOBER 14.
1884.”, “44 W.C.F.”. The Winchester oval proof mark is on the top of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The upper tang is marked
“MODEL 1892/--WINCHESTER--/TRADE MARK REG. IN U.S. PAT. OFF.” and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine. The carbine retains 92% plus of the original blue finish with some grey patina along high points on the
magazine tube, bottom of the receiver and on the buttplate. There are a few light scratches on the receiver as well as the usual wear on the left side caused by the saddle ring. The
wood is very fine, the forearm shows an old varnish overcoat, the buttstock is excellent with only delicate handling marks. The markings are sharp and clear. Mechanically excellent. An
exceptional, extremely scarce Model 1892 Trapper’s carbine that would highlight any Winchester collection.

rear sight. The upper tang has the model marking, while the two-line patent dates and serial number are
on the lower tang. It is fitted with a Lyman beaded blade front sight and an elevation adjustable No. 24
