Rare and Extraordinary London
Cased and Proofed Colt Model
1860 Army Percussion Revolver
- Serial no. 154572, 44 cal., 8 inch
round bbl., blue/casehardened finish,
varnished walnut grips. This is an
extraordinary London proofed Colt
Model 1860 Army revolver. Per page
297 of “The Colt Model 1860 Army
Revolver” by Charles Pate, “It looks
like Colt intended many of their
earliest post-fire special production”
Model 1860 Army Revolvers “ for
the British market. The earliest 14
of these ‘L’-marked pistols appear in
the 154405-154572 serial number
range, These pistols were probably
shipped to London in January of
1866, as the Colt business ledgers
show an invoice to the London
Agency dated January 31st for pistols
and parts amounting to $6,350.57.”
The revolver is accompanied with
a proper period factory oak case
with Colt London Agency Pall Mall
addressed interior label. London
cased and proofed Model 1860 Army
revolvers are considered very rare to
encounter today, let alone in such a
high level of condition, making this
a highly desirable Colt. The case has
a green felt lined fitted interior with
seven compartments containing an
array of correct accessories to include
a J. Blanch & Son London cap tin
with embossed brass disc on the lid,
blued dual cavity bullet mold marked
“44H” on the side and “COLT’S/
PATENT” on the sprue cutter, blued
“L” shaped combination tool, lead
balls, steel cleaning rod with turned
boxwood knob and slotted shank,
extra percussion nipples, key, James
Dixon & Sons oil bottle, and a bag
powder flask marked “COLTS NAVY
FLASK” and “JAMES DIXON/& SONS/
SHEFFIELD” on top with a lanyard ring
and brown lacquer body, gold plated
brass three-position charger, and
niter blue spring. The revolver has a
high polish blue finish on the barrel,
cylinder, trigger guard and back strap.
The loading lever, three screw frame
and hammer are casehardened with
vivid case colors.
