Very Fine Relief Chiseled
Caron of Paris Percussion
Over/Under Double Rifle -
Serial no. 9929, 58 cal., 22 7/8 inch octagon bbl., brown/casehardened finish, walnut stock. F. P. Caron was active
c. 1852-1874 and was a gunmaker to Napoleon III. The Damascus barrels feature a bead front sight on top, notch
and folding leaf rear sight, “Caron a Paris Arq. de S. M. l’Empereur” signed on top, a proof marks on the left including an oval Liege
proof, a ramrod fitted on the left, and the serial number and a sling swivel on the lower barrel. The breech plugs, locks, and mounts are relief
chiseled with textured backgrounds, and “CARON A PARIS” is signed on the locks. The trigger guard includes a crest with a hand grasping a serpent
over a torse, “SPERNO” marked in a garter, and three helms. The nicely figured walnut buttstock has a checkered wrist, “TES” monogram on the wrist escutcheon, “145”
marked behind the rear sling swivel, and “4” inscribed on the oval escutcheon towards the toe. A leather breech cover marked “DUBOIS/DEPOSE/A PARIS” is included.
CONDITION: Very fine with 90% plus original brown finish and distinct twist patterns along the barrels, silver-gray
and brown patina on the remaining metal, distinct chiseling and maker’s marks, and fairly minor overall wear
including some light scratches and minor oxidation. The stock is fine and has crisp checkering, a small crack at the
tail of each lock, some filled knots, and mild scratches and dings. Mechanically functions. The leather cover is very
good with mild wear, crackling, and a torn strap.

Elaborately Engraved,
Gold and Silver Inlaid, and Relief
Carved Johann Adam Kuchenreuter Percussion Rifle - NSN, 50 cal., 28 inch octagon bbl., bright/gold/silver finish,
walnut stock. Johann Adam Kuchenreuter (1794-1869) was one of the most talented and most recognized members of
the Kuchenreuter family and was the court gunmaker for both the Princely House of Thurn & Taxis of Regensburg and the King of
Bavaria. The rifle has an etched Damascus barrel with “J. Adam Kuchenreuter in Regensburg” in raised gold inlay on top along with Kuchenreuter’s
maker’s mark and raised inlaid silver scrolls, blade and notch sights, a finely adjustable folding peep sight, a scene of a reposed stag at the tail end of the lock, a hammer stall safety,
interlacing scrolls, a bestial motif on the hammer, similarly engraved steel mounts, adjustable double set triggers, spurred trigger guard, scrolling wood grip extension, dark horn forend cap,
checkered wrist with relief carved scroll borders, sliding wood patchbox lid with a dark horn button, and a large cheekpiece.
CONDITION: Fine with bright gold, light aged patina on the silver, silver-gray and light brown patina on the steel, distinct Damascus
patterns and engraving, minor oxidation/pitting, and generally fairly minor overall wear. The stock is very good and has distinct checkering, mild
scratches and dings, and a few small chips. The set triggers need adjustments. The lock functions.

Sohn Gold Inlaid and Engraved Percussion Rifle - NSN, 45 cal., 26 inch octagon bbl., blue/gold/casehardened
finish, relief carved walnut stock. Manufactured around the mid-19th century in Altenburg, Thuringia, Germany,
with an etched Damascus barrel, a dovetailed blade front sight, adjustable notch rear sight, mounting point for a peep
sight, “M.A. GMEINER & SOHN IN ALTENBURG.” signed on top in gold inlay, gold and enamel coronet and escutcheon on
top of the breech plug, fine scroll engraving and relief carving, checkered panels on the forend and wrist,
dog head with inlaid eyes on the forend tip, cheekpiece, horn grip extension, adjustable double set triggers,
and sling swivel and stud. A brass “263” marked inventory/collection tag is included.
CONDITION: Fine overall with a blend of fading original finish and gray and brown patina on the barrel along with distinct etched
Damascus patterns and bright gold inlays, gray and brown patina on the lock and mounts, minor oxidation and pitting, distinct
engraving and carving, crisp checkering, gold painted oval
on the forend, some faint cracks and insect holes in the
stock, and mild wear. Mechanically excellent.

Very Attractive
Extensively
Engraved Pirko Over/Under Percussion Rifle - NSN, 60 cal., 27 1/8 inch octagon bbl., brown/casehardened
finish, walnut stock. Carl Pirko of Vienna was active in the 1830s-1860s. This rifle is signed “PIRKO” on the right
lock, “WIEN” on the left lock, and “Pirko in Wien” on top of the upper barrel and has an oval Liege proof on the left flat of the
upper barrel, a small faint number on each barrel, and “52” on the left flat of the lower barrel. The upper barrel is twist rifled and has dovetailed
blade and notch sights, and the lower barrel is straight rifled. The rifle features elaborate engraving consisting primarily of scroll and border designs
along with a sphinx on each lock, and a mustachioed male mask on the upper tang. The rifle has a ramrod fitted to the right of the barrels, a single set right
trigger, plain left trigger, pierced scroll pattern horn grip extension, German silver escutcheon with a monogram including an “S”, sling
swivels, and walnut stock with checkered wrist, relief carved patchbox lid, and large cheekpiece. A jag is in the patchbox.
CONDITION: Fine with gray and brown patina, distinct Damascus patterns along the barrel, crisp engraving, isolated light pitting, and minor
wear. The refinished stock is very good and has distinct checkering and carving, and minor dings and scratches. Mechanically functions.
