Factory Engraved Boss & Co. Assisted-
Opening Sidelock Double Barrel Shotgun
- Serial no. 4656, 12 gauge, 28 5/8 inch solid rib bbl., black/casehardened
finish, walnut stock. This beautiful gun was built by Boss & Co. circa 1898 according
to page 238 of Donald Dallas’ “Boss & Co.: Builders of Best Guns Only”. The gun has black
steel dovetail lump barrels featuring a single bead sight on the smooth concave game rib which
is signed “BOSS & Co. 13/14 CORK STREET, LONDON, W1.” (address from 1960-1982) along
with a gold “2” and a flourish of floral scroll at the
base, single band of engraving at the breech, London
proof marks dating between 1954 and 1989, and 2 1/2 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The
barrels bear serial number “9520” on the rear lug and “4656” on either tube, indicating that they are a newer set
made by Boss & Co. The barrels are mated to a casehardened assisted-opening sidelock action which displays
extensive classic bouquet and scroll engraving surrounding “BOSS & Co.” signature banners on either lockplate
and “BOSS’S/No. 22894/PATENT” on the underside before extending to the trigger guard, both tangs, and toplever
which shows a second gold “2”. The gun features Boss’s patented single trigger (number referenced above), gold
centerline cocking indicators on either lockplate, a right hand rolled trigger guard, and a tang mounted automatic
safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator. The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured and multi-point checkered splinter forend with blued
and engraved iron and a third gold “2” on the Anson button release, along with a straight grip stock with teardrop carved drop points, a
blank gold inscription oval, and a Silver’s style recoil pad. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proofed and measured at .729 inches; choke constriction
..003/.011 inches; minimum wall thickness .033/.028 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 3/8 inch drop at heel; 15 1/16 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 14 oz.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine as professionally restored, retaining 99% black and casehardened finishes, some loss of gold on the “SAFE” marking, minor handling evidence, and sharp checkering on
the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent.

Factory Engraved Westley Richards Connaught “Gold Name” Double Barrel Shotgun with Case - Serial no. 2079, 12 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened/gold
finish, walnut stock. Completed by Westley Richards & Co., one of England’s top makers of fine arms, between 1974 and 1983 according to their published serial number information. Built
with blued steel dovetail lump barrels featuring dual bead sights on the smooth concave solid rib which is marked “WESTLEY RICHARDS & Co.” along with a flourish of scroll engraving, scroll
engraving at the breech, 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors, and Birmingham proof marks (several of which are absent) and “87” marked on both tubes. The barrels are fitted to the
beautifully case colored scalloped Anson & Deeley boxlock action which displays highly attractive floral scroll engraving interspersed with grotesque masks and surrounding gold inlaid “WESTLEY
RICHARDS” signatures on either side. The gun features a single gold trigger and a tang mounted manual safety with a gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator. The gun is fitted with a wonderfully well-figured and
multi-point checkered beavertail forend with engraved blue iron and casehardened Anson button release as well as a round semi-pistol grip stock with “JWD” in the inscription oval and an added thick leather
covered recoil pad. Includes a maker’s leather flat case containing an oiler, snap caps, and cleaning tools. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proofed and
measured at .729 inches; choke constriction .011/.018 inches; minimum wall thickness .033/.031 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 5/16 inch drop at heel; 14 1/2 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 8 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 98% professionally refurbished blue and gold finishes, 95% original case colors on the action, and minor handling evidence. There is a small split at the upper left of the stock head;
otherwise, the wood is very fine with some dings and scratches and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good with some storage/transit wear.
