Gauge Imperial Extra Luxe Self-Opening Hand
Detachable Sidelock Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial
no. 44291, 16 gauge, 26 7/8 inch solid rib bbl., blue/
casehardened finish, walnut stock. Built with blued steel
barrels featuring a single brass bead sight on the matted concave solid rib which is marked with a gold “1” at the base,
“AUG. LEBEAU-COURALLY” and “ARMES DE GRAND LUXE A LIEGE” on the right and left tubes respectively, single band
of engraving at the breech, 1970 dated Liege proof marks on the flats, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The
barrels are matted to the casehardened round body Beesley type self-opening hand detachable sidelock action with hidden third fastener which displays
beautifully executed near full coverage floral scroll engraving which continues onto the toplever which has a gold inlaid “1”, trigger guard, and both tangs.
The triggerplate is signed “R. Smeety Grailnide S. M. LeRoi” to the right of the triggers. The gun features bushed firing pins, double triggers (front articulated),
and a tang mounted manual safety with gold inlaid “S”. The gun is fitted with a lovely highly figured and multi-point checkered forend engraved iron, blued
Anson button release with a gold inlaid “1”, and a gold inlaid crest with a pigeon over “IMPERIAL EXTRA LUXE”. The straight hand stock is of the same impeccable quality with matching checkering
at the wrist and a checkered butt. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proofed at 16.8 mm (.661 inches) and measured .667 inches; choke
constriction .014/.023 inches; minimum wall thickness .024/.028 inches; 1 3/8 inch drop at comb; 2 7/16 inch drop at heel; 14 3/4 inch length of pull; slight cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 6 oz.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine overall as professionally restored, retaining 99% deep blue and vibrant casehardened finishes with minor handling evidence and sharp checkering on the stock and
forend. Mechanically needs works, right lock mainspring absent and there are small cracks on the underside of the action at the right cocking arms.

Flli. Piotti King I Sidelock Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial no. 8532,
12 gauge, 26 inch solid rib bbl., blue/brushed bright/gold finish, walnut
stock. Piotti is among the best gunmaking firms in Italy and produces
exceptionally high quality pieces that would be at home in the finest
sporting arms collections in the world. Built with blued steel chopperlump barrels featuring a single nickel bead sight on the smooth concave
game rib which is marked “Flli PIOTTI - GARDONE VT” along with a flourish of scroll engraving, a single band of engraving at the breech, 1987 dated Italian proof
marks on the flats, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to brushed bright sidelock action which features bushed firing pins,
a single trigger, right hand rolled trigger guard, and a tang mounted manual safety with a gold inlaid “S” indicator. The action displays beautifully cut tight scroll
engraving with interspersed floral bouquets surrounding “Flli. PIOTTI” in gold inlaid lettering on the left side and a gold inlaid crown on the toplever. The engraving is
signed “GRANETTI” on the triggerplate to the right of the trigger for Italian Master Engraver Oscar Granetti. The gun is fitted with a beautifully figured and super fine multi-
point checkered splinter forend with engraved brushed bright iron, push-button release, and a gold inlaid Piotti crest on the underside. The stock is of the same magnificent
quality with matching checkering, straight diamond shaped hand, gold “PR” initials inlaid directly into the stock opposite the comb, and a checkered butt. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L):
bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proofed and measured at 18.5 mm (.728 inches); choke constriction .003/.009 inches; minimum wall thickness .032/.035 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop
at comb; 2 1/4 inch drop at heel; 15 1/2 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 10 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue, brushed bright, and gold finished with minor handling evidence, some dried grease, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend.
Mechanically excellent. A wonderful opportunity to own a fantastic Italian double!
