Documented San Antonio, Texas, Shipped Factory Wilbur Glahn Master Engraved
Colt First Generation Single Action Army Revolver with Steer Head Carved Pearl Grip,
Factory Letter, and Badge - Serial no. 352769, 45 Long Colt cal., 5 1/2 inch round bbl., nickel
finish, pearl grips. This is a beautiful example of First Generation Colt Single Action Army revolver
was manufactured in 1929 and has beautiful “B” level engraving by Master Engraver Wilbur Glahn.
The engraving has Glahn’s distinct style of engraving consisting of foliate scrollwork with beaded
backgrounds, lined borders, and some chevron accents. The markings are standard, including matching serial numbers on
the frame and right side of the grip straps, matching partial serial number “69” on the back of the cylinder, and assembly
number “792” on the loading gate and back of the frame. The pearl grips have silver Colt medallions, and long horn steer
head is carved in raised relief on the right. The factory letter lists this revolver in .45 caliber with a 5 1/2 inch barrel, nickel
finish, pearl grips, and factory engraving and indicates it was sold and shipped to “Potchernick” in San Antonio, Texas, on
March 22, 1929, and was the sole gun of this type in the shipment. The revolver is accompanied by a black leather basket-
weave pattern holster with the initials “E.H.A.” on the loop and a “SPECIAL/OFFICER” marked badge with the Coat of Arms
of New Jersey. It was purchased by Brig Pemberton in 1959 for $350 (receipt included). Mr. Pemberton reached out to
Potchernick’s in 1966, but they did not have records for the revolver. Information regarding Special Ranger E. H. Armstrong
is also included. He enlisted as a Special Ranger on January 9, 1934, in Austin, Texas. He was born in Chattanooga,
Tennessee, and was 28.5 years old, stood 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighed 205 lbs., and had black hair, brown eyes, and a
“medium” complexion. He was listed as an investigator from San Antonio.
