a Texas Ranger. The left of the receiver is engraved “State of Texas/TEXAS RANGERS/Company B” for the company Banks
was in and eventually commanded. A rifle such as this would have given Banks a significant increase in firepower over
his typically carried sidearms. The barrel and receiver are marked with the standard Winchester factory oval proofs. The
left of the barrel has the standard address/proof steel, trademark, model, and caliber markings. The serial number is on
the left of the receiver twice. It is fitted with a blade front sight, elevation adjustable notch rear sight, and sling swivels on the barrel band and bottom of the stock. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a checkered steel buttplate. Includes a tooled leather sling.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, retains 97% plus of the original blue finish with some scattered light handling marks, some minor tool marks on the forearm retention collar, and the inscription crisp.     range. An included copy of a Texas Department of Public Safety letter signed by banks lists the rifle by serial number
along with a Winchester Model 1907 that is also in this auction, and Banks states that these rifles were used extensively during his career as a ranger. The
left side of the receiver is inscribed “State of Texas/TEXAS RANGERS/Company B/Capt. Jay Banks”. There are Winchester factory oval proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The left side of the barrel is marked with the standard proof steel, model, trademark, and caliber information. The serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a ramped and hooded, beaded blade front sight, an elevation adjustable notch rear sight, and sling swivel studs on the nose cap and bottom of the stock. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and pistol grip stock with a serrated shotgun buttplate.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, retains 95% plus of the original blue finish with a few scattered very light handling marks. The wood is very fine with a few scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A chance to add a Winchester lever action to your collection that is documented and
