Humphrey to justice in 1957 after a high speed chase and shootout which ended in the deaths of both Norris and Humphrey. Banks is noted as being one of the most famous Rangers of his time, appearing on television on The Today Show, Name That
Tune, and What’s My Line, all in 1956. He was reportedly used as the model for the “Texas Rangers of Today” or “One Riot, One Ranger” statue that until recently was displayed at Dallas’ Love Field. The statue has since been removed due to Banks’ role
in suppressing desegregation at Mansfield High School and Texarkana College, both of which occurred in 1956. Banks died in Garland, Texas in 1987.
