World War II German MP40 Submachine Gun, Class III/NFA C&R Fully Transferable Machine Gun - Serial no. 9251, 9 mm cal., 9 inch round bbl., blue finish, metal stock. Manufactured by multiple subcontractors, with “fxo” (Haenel) and “cos” (Merz-Werke) markings on the trigger housing, the MP40 was a refined and streamlined successor to the MP38, making extensive use of metal stampings and synthetic materials to make a weapon robust enough to withstand the stress of war while being simple enough to manufacture to keep up with the demand. Nearly every armed branch and paramilitary organization in Germany made use of the MP40, and many also found their way into the hands of opposition forces such as the French Resistance and Poland’s Home Army, making it one of the signature weapons of the war. Blade front and two-leaf rear sights, with “eagle/37” (Haenel) and “WaA254” proofs on the receiver tube, “42” date on the endcap. the latter also dated “41”. Fitted with a set of brown Bakelite side panels and an under-folding stock. CONDITION: Fine as refinished/assembled, with 90% plus factory quality blue finish, showing some light wear and handling marks overall, some sub-surface pitting on the stock and trigger housing. The bolt and firing pin assembly has been restruck to match the receiver, and some markings may be added or freshened. The Bakelite panels are excellent, with light handling mars. Some denting and cracking is present on the charging handle, preventing use of the closed bolt safety notch, otherwise mechanically very good. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a “Curios or Relic” as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11.
