Factory Franco Lancini Signed, Master Engraved, and Gold Inlaid Bottega Dell Artigiano Sidelock Ejector Double Barrel Shotgun Built for Author R. L. Wilson with Letter - Serial no. 130066, 12 gauge, 27 5/8 inch solid rib bbl., blue/grey finish, walnut stock. Blued steel barrels with a single steel bead on the concave matted solid rib, single bands of gold inlay at either breech, “Bottega dell’
Artigiano” gold inlaid on the left barrel, and 70 mm (2 3/4 inch) chamber with automatic ejectors.
The grey finished sidelock action displays beautiful deep chisel cut floral scroll and bestial designs with gold eyes carved at the fences along with three fabulous engraved waterfowl scenes and extensive floral scroll engraving. The left lockplate shows ten ducks in the water, air, and on land, the underside has a trio of ducks in flight over a marsh scene, and the right lockplate shows four geese on land and four geese in flight over a
pond scene. The trigger plate is signed “F. Lancini” to the right of the trigger guard for Italian Master Engraver Franco Lancini. The gun features bushed firing pins, double triggers, and a tang mounted manual safety switch with gold inlay around the “SAFE”. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings, including the Anson button release, and straight grip stock with teardrop carved flats, blank gold inscription oval, and checkered bare butt. Included is an R. L. Wilson letter explaining the origins of this gun, stating the gun was built for him in the style of a Purdey under the supervision of Lancini to show off the, at the time, underrated skills of the Italian firearms trade. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proved and measured at 18.3 mm (.720 inches); choke constriction .023/.038 inches; minimum wall thickness .028/.034 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 3/16 inch drop at heel; 14 1/2 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 4 oz. CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue and grey finishes, a few minor handling marks mostly on the wood, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. sight on the matte rib with barrels marked “GRIFFIN & HOWE - NEW
YORK” on the top and “MADE IN SPAIN” on the underside, 70 mm (2 3/4 inch) chambers with ejectors, and standard Spanish proofs on the flats.
Rounded casehardened action with six pin sidelocks with full coverage
floral bouquet and scroll engraving with “”GRIFFIN & HOWE/NEW YORK” marked on the underside in
gold, Spanish proofs, dual triggers, and automatic tang safety. Matching engraving on the tangs, trigger guard, and barrel release lever. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered splinter forearm with engraved fittings and Anson button latch and straight grip stock with leather wrapped recoil pad. Includes a canvas and leather wrapped takedown case containing two snap caps. Stock measurements: 1 1/2 inch drop at the comb; 2 3/16 inch drop at the heel; 15 1/4 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 4 oz. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 99% plus original blue finish and 95% original case colors with limited handling marks and crisp engraving. Wood is very fine with some barely noticeable chipping at the rear of the locks, scattered dings and scratches, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Case is excellent. Estimate: 2,500 - 4,000

Blued steel barrels steel barrels with single brass bead sight on the matted solid rib, 1953 dated Italian proofs, import mark under forend, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors. The coin finished sidelock action displays scroll and bouquet engraving and features bushed firing pins, double triggers, and a tang mounted manual safety switch. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings, and straight grip stock with checkered bare butt. Includes a canvas and leather wrapped takedown case. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proved at 18.5mm (.728
inches) and measured .730/.729 inches; choke constriction .025/.038 inches; minimum wall thickness .021/.021 inches; 1 5/16 inch drop at comb; 2 inch drop at heel; 14 9/16 inch length of pull; cast- off; weight 6 lbs. 15 oz. CONDITION: Very fine overall as professionally restored, retaining 99% blue and coin finishes with minor handling evidence, a few spots of tiny subsurface oxidation, and sharp checkering on the wood. The case is very good. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,000 - 3,000

Blued steel barrels with a single red bead sight on the matted solid rib, import mark under forend, 1965 dated Italian proofs, chokes marked modified/full, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The casehardened sidelock action displays light scroll engraving with maker’s name on both lockplates and the underside and a gold inlaid pigeon on the toplever. The gun features double triggers, bushed firing pins, and a manual tang mounted safety. Lightly figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend and straight grip stock with ebony inlaid teardrop carved flats and a red rubber recoil pad. Barrel and
stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .726/.729 inches; choke constriction .022/.043 inches; minimum wall thickness .022/.020 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 3/8 inch drop at heel; 14 11/16 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 3 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 98% original blue finish which has taken on a plum hue, 95% original case colors, light handling evidence, repaired teardrop inlays, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,000 - 3,000
