DWM Model 1923 Commercial “Stoeger
American Eagle” Luger Semi-Automatic
Pistol - Serial no. 86812, 9 mm Luger cal.,
4 3/4 inch round bbl., blue/straw finish, walnut grips. An examples of a
DWM Model 1923 “American Eagle” Commercial Luger with desirable A.F.
Stoeger markings. Unlike many early Weimar-era Commercial Lugers to hit the
American market, which were made from left-over military components or entirely
refurbished military surplus handguns, the Model 1923 Stoeger pistols were made factory fresh
by DWM (and later Mauser) specifically for the A.F. Stoeger Arms Company of New York, a noted early importer of European firearms in the 1900s. Although it is estimated that over 1,000 of this model were manufactured, in reality, they are very scarce and difficult to find today. Features fixed serrated bade front and notch rear sights, with a series of “crown/N” proofs on the barrel, extension, and bolt, “DWM” marked front toggle link, and “GERMANY”
marked on the right side of the extension ahead of the
“A.F. STOEGER INC/NEW YORK” address. The extractor
and upper safety position have the American-style
“LOADED” and “SAFE” markings. It also has matching
external numbers, straw finished small parts, niter blue
pins and springs, unnumbered replacement checkered grips,
and a nickel-finished magazine with an unmarked wood base.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally refinished, retaining 95% plus blue and 80% straw finishes with light handling marks, faint spotting, and crisp grip checkering. The sear does not release the striker when fully assembled, otherwise mechanically fine.
Estimate: 2,000 - 3,000
